My Gamecube stopped working!

Really! It did!

Okay, it turns on and all, but it doesn't read ANY discs (The discs I tried are barely scratched). All that appears is the cube that normally appears when there's no disc. Can anyone help? It's the first time in maybe I week I've tried playing it, so I have no idea what could be wrong.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

That has happened to me. Gamecube's only work for 5 years tops. Less under heavy use. You should call 1 800 255 3700 and talk to them about it. They will tell you to send the unit in and they will fix it for you. But ytou have to wait like 4 months so i suggest buying a brand new on.

Did you touch your lens, perhaps, or spill anything on it?

I'd imagine your lens is where the problem lies. Someone else might be kind enough to provide information on how to safely clean it.

I very well may have touched the lens. Well, I hope someone knows how to clean it, because, I don't really wanna buy a new Cube. If no one else knows, I may just look up on the net how to clean them.

Your getting DRE's. A walkthrough to recalibrate your lense on your gamecube:

But, before you do anything, go to staples and get one of those compressed air blowers, and clean of the lense with that. If you still get DRE errors, consult the above guide and hopefully it will fix it.

Our gamecube does the same thing. What we do, is keep opening and closing the lid until the gamecube registers that yes, there is a disk inside. Our gamecube also has many errors if we're playing a game that requires a lot of loading (such as skies of arcadia), so we have to save often.

I don't know if this tactic of the lid will work for your gamecube, I'm just saying that's what we do with ours. Give it a try! Who knows, it might work.

Yeah my neighbor has the same problem with his cube. After we play some demo games to warm it up we can play most games again.

And btw, it actually does work. Ive tried it and fixed my Cube!

The only reason your Cube would stop working is if you accidentaly touched the lens. Every system has it's weakness.

That sux. Sorry. But what everybody said about the lens is right, so i agree w/ that. The GC is pretty tough outwardly, say, if you dropped it, it wouldn't break. But the lens is one of the most important parts, obiously, so once again, i agree that your problems probably there.

lol man thats sucks, I hope my gamecube does not blink out just when I get TP.... tho I brought it 2nd hand... and I've bearly used it since I finished tWW..

My Cube's been dropped from about eight foot, and it still works. And plus I've had it since the released date, but I suppose I keep the Gamecube most well protected- it's constantly in a case, so.

My deepest apologies about your console's affliction, my friend. I arranged this masterful piece of art in cause of this terrible tragedy, in hopes it might be a consolation.

Hm. I have a GameCube that did that too...I should try this.....Maybe then I'll have 2 working GameCubes...

I bought a GC at launch and about a year ago it just stoped reading disks too i tryed cleaning the lens but it did nothing, I always keep my consoles in PRIME condision( I still have my perfectly working NES) but for some reason my GC just died,I had to buy a new one.
But I am gonna try that lens.TXT thing on my old one

The same thing happened to my cube a while back, so i spend about a month trying everything on it. Lens cleaning, everything. nothing really worked so i got a new one and took my old one apart. I didnt really learn any gamecube fixing lessons, but i did get a knowledge of the inside of the cube really well.

My experiences with disk read errors have never been permanent. Sometimes the GameCube won't work for a day or two, but it tends to just start working on its own. If by some chance the guide linked to above won't help you, then just wait for a little while and see if it does work. And be sure to test the console one last time before operating.
