Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

I would choose Super Smash Bros. Melee because it's better than the original Super Smash Bros. (N64). The graphics are better, and there's a better choice of characters. Which one will you choose?

p.s if some one already made a post like this notify me a.s.a.p.

I like Super Smash Brothers Melee better because you get more levels and get to be more characters. There is also a lot more to do in one-player mode.

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

SSBM will obviously be chosen by the majority. The original was a much smaller game in comparison. Though, what I miss in Melee is the character entrances. Like when Link floated down in the light or Pikachu came out of a Pokéball. Those should be brought back.

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

I enjoy playing Super Smash Bros. more than Super Smash Bros. Melee, so I vote for Super Smash Brothers, the N64 version (obviously).

Melee. More characters, character improvements, more items, more levels, more pokemon, more moves. But the best part about Melee is that Link was upgraded BIG TIME.

Melee. More enjoyment, more unique-ness, more everything, it feels like. To be honest, I'm still not bored with it.

Definally Melee. Better graphics, more moves, and just a whole heck of a lot of fun to play. Both are really great games, but Melee improves over the original in several areas.

Yes I agree those entrances were damn cool.
Well I voted for SSB, simply because it was more fun than SSBM. Full stop.

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

Super Smash bros was much, much more enjoyable than Melee. Still is, I think... but I can never find anyone willing to play it with me anymore.

Now I will tell you why.

First, and most obviously, Super Smash bros came first. It featured a brand new type of gameplay, never seen before, and it was pulled off wonderfully. SSBM featured the same type of gameplay, but the impact of it's innovation was no longer there. This only applies to people who played the original back when it came out, of course.

Second, the level design. Super Smash Bros had far better level design than Melee. Every arena in the original had it's own quirks, it's own tricks to get used to. Melee... well, the levels are not quite as good, plain and simple. There is nothing in Melee which can compete with the old Mario Bros stage, with the floating bumper. Melee's version of Zebes is not nearly as good as the original's. Melee's version of Sector Z is smaller and altogether less enjoyable than the original's.

On top of that, in the original every level had a unique and interesting hazard. Mario stage had that bumper and the moving platform on the bottom. Zebes had the lava. Hyrule Castle had the whirlwinds. Saffron city had those pokemon that burst out of the door. The classic Mario Bros stage had the tubes, pirahna plants, and pow blocks. Etc., etc. In Melee, only about half of the levels have hazards like that, and a lot of them are basically the same thing - a moving level. Not as good.

The gameplay, though it may seem the same, was different enough to make the original a far better experience, in my mind. Melee is faster paced, but in a worse way. In the original, dodging took a bit of skill, but was far more important to do and far more satisfying to pull off. Getting hit actually mattered - in Melee, you'll get hit, take damage, but it doesn't really effect the overall game as much. In the original, items like the Beamsword, Homerun bat, and bomb-ombs were actually important pieces of the game. They are less so, in Melee.

That said, I wouldn't really say that the original is the better game.. just that I enjoyed it more.

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

Well, I choose SSBM because of the better graphics, more stages, there are way more things to do (like playing adventure mode), and more characters (Marth, Roy, and Link are the best).

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

I picked Melee. I liked the original too. One of the things I wish they would have added to Melee is the Hyrule Castle stage from the original game. I thought that was the best stages with the Tornado and all those great places to throw bombs from as Link.

Nearly every stage you just named was ported to the remake.

Your statement about the speed and doging skill contradicts...greatly.

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

How so? Dodging took more skill and was more rewarding in the original, because each individual blow was worth more, and because you didn't have the dodge ability, like in SSBM. The speed has nothing to do with it; there is no contradiction there.

And not a single one of the stages I mentioned was moved to SSBM. Only three were... none of which were ones I mentioned.

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

SSBM of course!! It just has more of everything. Plus, it's the only game where Zelda is playable. Not to mention Peach is fun to use too. Now if only there was a way to play as Samus in her wicked cool Fusion Suit....

Re: Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee?

Zebes is an alteration of brinstar. That simple. The only difference is that in the remake a couple of the platforms can be moved.

Saffron city was removed becuase it only had three (or four, can't remember) platforms and the hazard was extremly stupid.

The mario bros stage, many complained, was a cheap excuse not to make an actual peaches castle model. I never had any trouble with that bumper. (the moving platform was nice though)

The warp pipe thing in the 2d mario bros stage was.....pointless.

Hyrule castle was the only stage I missed personally. The tornadoes served as a terrible hazard (so easy to avoid...)

And dodging has nothing to do with speed?

Dude, isn't dodging based on timing?

Faster speed= need for better reflexes= quicker reaction time?
