Computer RPGs vs. Console RPGs

If there's been a poll like this before, I'm sorry. But I was talking to someone about the difference. And I thought it would make for a good poll.

So, do you like Console RPGs better or Computer RPGs?

Re: Computer RPGs vs. Console RPGs

This poll should really be changed to Eastern or Western RPG's. Typical PC RPG's can now be found on the Xbox, for example KOTOR, Jade Empire, Fable, etc..... And ofcourse, those are all western RPG's. Traditional console RPG's are made by Japanese companies (ie. SquareEnix)

Of course, I'm just talking generically.

And I think RPGs like "Neverwinter Nights" and "Morrowind" are a bit too pointless. Neverwinter nights has a plot I can say that about it. Morrowind, is kind of too nonlinear, and I think it's pointless. Yes I think it give the players tons of freedom, but there's a fine line between having freedom to adjust gameplay to your liking, and having too much freedom.

I like the star wars rpgs better. I like the KotOR, I've only played it for the Xbox, I'm guessing it's the same for the PC.

Re: Computer RPGs vs. Console RPGs

I mean, it all depends on where your interests are. Personally, I like both, but I tend to enjoy western RPG's more. The FF forumula hasn't changed a heck of a lot over the years, and is getting stagnant and boring for me (and this is comming from a fan who's first RPG was FF1). I also like western RPG's more, for the greater replay value. When it's too linear then you aren't making choices anymore, and it's not really roleplaying, as it's more just an interactive story.

Re: Computer RPGs vs. Console RPGs

In my opinion Console RPGs are much better, specially much of Square Enix, Level 5, Tri-Acem, and Namco still are on the console side, mostly PS2, but still I love their games.

Re: Computer RPGs vs. Console RPGs

I like PC RPGs more, I'm not really into Tales of Symphonia or Final Fantasy. Though I love the Knights of the Old Republic games, they're available on the PC, not only Xbox.

With this being said, most RPGs I play and enjoy are on the PC.

I much enjoy console RPG's, they are lots of fun in comparison. Paper Mario is quite a good RPG, and the Pokémon series, (Though it's quite stale now).

Re: Computer RPGs vs. Console RPGs

Nonlinear are great! It's just when they get too nonlinear like morrowind were there isn't really any point it except traveling around a world, just fighting the random incounters, or going into towns and massacring the people (Which gets kind of old after the first few towns)

I actually liked Tales of Symphonia, I like RPGs with twist and turns around every corner, it's an amazing peice of work. It's hard to think it was for the gamecube! (Just for the fact that it had a complicated storyline) I thought the fighting engine was also unique, it had a good mix of real time/classic turn-based elements. ToS is my idea of a perfect RPG.

I have to admit though, I do enjoy some computer RPGs though. Star wars academy was a good one, neverwinter nights to say the least had me interested for awhile. But as I said.

FF is kind of repetitive for me though. Squaresoft is on what? It's 12th one or something like that?

12th one in the series, but that doesn't count FF Tactics, FF Crystal Cronicles, or any other side game.

Re: Computer RPGs vs. Console RPGs

And let's not forget that FFXI is not very much like the others at all. I don't think it should have been called FFXI, more like a different name, but keep the FF.
Kind of like FF:CC really, although there is a EXTREMELY large difference in coolness.

I loved ToS myself, but it's a matter of opinion really.

I wouldn't say console or PC RPG's are ALWAYS that different, because what about ports?
FFXI is available for both the PC and PS2 and I'm sure that the games don't all have a different style just because of the console/pc format difference, surely?
(don't know if that was worded right )

I won't vote, as I have no preference, also, I've only played ToS and FFXI myself. I've never like RPG's before those two.
Also, I'm playing Starocean 3 but not very much.

I had FFXI for over a year, (now retired to World of Warcraft) The game is incredible, and is also the first cross console online game. The game is fine to be kept as XI
