Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 would be out next week. (8/28/12)

From what I noticed, most people here in ZU aren't big on MMOs but for what's it worth, anyone here in ZU excited and will play GW2? Maybe our community here can set up a guild there too.

What job/class would you like to play as?
Are you going to wait to let GW2 aged first because there would be minor bugs and server crashes on it's first day?

Re: Guild Wars 2

I've never really gotten into MMOs, but I'm going to give this one a try. I've played WoW's free trial and thought it was alright, but wasn't really worth the monthly subscription fee. One of my friends showed me a video about it explaining the new features and it looked pretty good to me. That and online is free. I can't say I'm crazy excited about it, but I'm definitely awaiting it's release.

I've had it pre-purchased for a while. Probably gonna play an asura engineer to start off with.

Although I haven't played the first one, from what I've seen this game looks great. Might get it on release.

Re: Guild Wars 2

I played the beta on a friend's account a little while back (month or so ago). I tried getting into it, but for some reason I couldn't help but feel my friends have been grossly exaggerating the merits of this game. It's good, but they made it seem like it was the best thing since sliced bread. Way too hyped.

Yup, it's B2P but it's better than P2p. I think this game can force the P2P games to be B2P, including WoW and SWTOR. Sure, SWTOR is free but there's a lot of restrictions.

Same here. In all the MMOs that I had played, I always go for ranged classes so I'm still torn between a ranger and an engineer. Which do you think is the better class for long range combat?

Here's hoping that the servers won't crashed.

Did your friends played the first one? If so, that's a normal reaction to get over hyped for GW2.

No. Which is what's strange about it. They don't play that many MMOs either.

I'm thinking Sword/Pistol Mesmer at the moment. Illusionary melee, I like the concept of it, popping clones to attack with you while you slice, dice, and shoot an enemy into oblivion.

That or Dagger/Dagger Thief. I like fast attacks.

Re: Guild Wars 2

Early launch for pre-orders in a few hours! (Hour and a half, possibly. 4.5 officially, but they've stated they want the servers up three hours early if they can) *Kermit flails*

I'm definitely going to be playing an Asura. Not sure if I'll go Mesmer or Guardian at this point, though. I've been hearing that Mesmers are woefully underpowered (though every class is supposedly underpowered).

Maybe they didn't experienced something like that before? I get that sometimes in games. Like for example, when I played AC1 and Skyrim (My first TES game), I was like "This is the best game ever!" because I haven't played or experienced something similar to like that one before.

Nice. I don't about know GW2 but in my experience, those classes are usually AGI off-tanks and relies on crits for damage because their base damage is pretty weak. Fast but weak. I go for long range, heavy hitters like the Ranger and Engineer but they are usually squishy.

Still can't decide between a ranger or an engineer. Both are long range and I love bows and guns. Which one do you think is the best suited for long range? I like Engineer because it's a DPS/Support class at the same time (healing turrets). The ranger, on the other hand, is a pure DPS class.

Based on my experienced in MMOs, warriors and mages are and will always the first ones to be the overpowered class. Warriors can tank while having an overpowered damage. Mages always receives barriers that makes them immune to damage and powerful AOE spells that are capable of clearing an entire mob.

I'm playing on US Sea of Sorrows, the unofficial Oceania server. Asura engineer named Pani, sylvari ranger named Panique. My ID is in my signature.

Was torn on what to choose but have decided to go with Sylvari Elementalist for now, might make something different in the morning as I'm still not 100% on the choice.

I like the Water spells so far though.

Fun fact: A Norn with a two-handed greatsword as big as they are just looks ridiculous.

An Asura with the same weapon? Adorable!

Re: Guild Wars 2

I'm playing as a Norn Necro with focuses on Staff and Axes. I'm loving how versitile all the classes are, it's great, I'm not stuck with 1 or 2 viable play styles, I can pretty much fill any role with any profession, and each still has a unique flavor.

Re: Guild Wars 2

Asura Guardian, mostly mace, switching to sword if I need more mobility.

Level 26, and I'm growing very tired of the trading post being down. I need two more (semi-rare) gems to level up my Jewellery craft. I have been hunting almost all day (I started needing five or so). Blargh.

On the plus side, I've got 10% of the world map found, so my plan to get to 100% is moving at a right clip.

Re: Guild Wars 2

Elementalist is playing quite fun once you get to know what's what. Sticking to Earth with a Staff for most standard enemies takes them out quite nicely and switching to Water for pure support in events that really require it. Given the Air skills with a Staff I really don't see myself using it at all save for the movement speed buff on occasion.

I'm at 21 and so far so good.

Re: Guild Wars 2

35, still having loads of fun.

Though bugs are starting to crop up. I joined a guild, and the guild pane says I'm there, but guild chat and the "represent" button don't work. The area I'm in has had two events bug and freeze part-way through, and mob spawn rates are getting ridiculous (Pirates! They literally respawn as fast as I can kill them). Apparently all of these are being worked on, though, and given how horrendous the launches of other MMOs have been, I'm actually quite impressed.

Anywho, tomorrow's plan is to get a group and to run through the Catacombs, now that I'm levelled enough to do that. Time to see if I'm as good at tanking here as I was in WoW. Without any taunt abilities. Should be fun.

Re: Guild Wars 2

Correct me if I'm wrong guys. There's no dedicated healer class on this game so I'm guessing the boss battles (endgame bosses/dungeons) would be "tank and spank" because all classes are Tank/DPS hybrids?

Re: Guild Wars 2

No one's really endgame yet.

But the mid-game ones don't really let you tank (three hits to take down a guardian in heavy armour, usually) so I suspect they're entirely DPS-while-trying-desperatly-to-KT-and-just-generally-not-die.

What's more, none of the classes are very good at healing. They're fine for general content outside of dungeons, but none of them come even remotely close to being capable of handling bosses.
