Let me introduce you to my favorite puzzle series...
Professor Layton
<wiki copypasta> Professor Layton is a puzzle adventure game series for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS developed by Level-5. The series currently consists of five games and one film. A sixth game and another movie is currently being planned. A crossover game titled Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney is also in development for the Nintendo 3DS. The first three games are about Professor Hershel Layton and Luke Triton's adventures together. The next three games and the two films are prequels and are about how Luke and Layton met and their "original" adventures.
Gameplay?!
Spoiler:
The game is essentially a collection of puzzles with exploration sections between them. The player, as Professor Layton and Luke, explore their environments in a point-and-click adventure game fashion using the DS's touchscreen. This can be used to talk with non-player characters, learn more
about the environment, moving between different areas, or to find hint coins that are used during puzzles. Often, when interacting with a person or object, the player will be presented with a puzzle, valued at a number of "picarats", a type of currency within the game.
Solving the puzzle correctly will earn the player that many picarats, but a wrong answer will reduce the value a small amount on subsequent attempts down to a minimal picarat number. In order to progress the plot, the player is required to solve specific puzzles, or to solve a minimum number of puzzles or gain a minimum amount of picarats.
When the player leaves an area due to progression of the plot, puzzles they have yet to find or solve are collected into another location where they can return and attempt to resolve later.

So, anybody here who plays Professor Layton?
I myself am currently on the second game, Pandora's Box (called the Diabolical Box in the US) and have recently gotten into it again after my last save file got corrupted. I'm probably a little more than halfway through now and it excites me that I'm finally progressing past my last save file and get to see the story develop. C:
To me, aside from the puzzles, I would say that the story is one of the strongest holds of the Professor Layton games. The story of the first game just baffled me and a few manly tears at the end might have been shed. The art style that they use is also one of my main sources of inspiration when it comes to drawing. I love the distinct character designs so much.
Professor Layton games are ♥♥♥♥ing awesome. My mom bought the first one because she likes puzzle games, but I just had to buy all of the others once I ended the first game. They're just so well made, it's amazing!
Eagerly awaiting the next game!
(The third game, the unwound future, made me cry at the end due to the end of the story, that's how amazing the story of these games are, never before have I had to cry because of how a story ended)
Beat them all 1,000,000 times. Can't wait for MM. I am a HUGE PL fan, it's insane. DD They're freaking awesome!

Professor Layton and the Majora's Mask:
In the next chapter, Professor Layton is going to unveil the mystery of the Majora's mask: did the dark interlopers create it? What is its connection with the Fierce Deity? Are Don Pablo and Tingle making alliances?
Talking seriously: I love that series, I've seen the movie and played the first three games, I didn't play specter flute but I'll do it soon, the third was my favourite, and I want the Ace attorney crossover in Europe so badly.

Like, seriously, I have a kind of unhealthy infatuation sometimes. I find myself quoting the games all the time (Descole and Layton, in particular); in fact, I am becoming increasingly convinced that there is a Layton quote for every situation.
Now, there's kind of a interesting story behing my involvement. Typically, when it comes to games, I prefer to stay within what I know, the franchises and playstyles to which I like. For sake of ensured enjoyment, money reasons, and not too much time to play. So as you can imagine, I'm not one to branch out too much (though I'm not closed-minded by any stretch of the imagination). But then I saw a screenshot for Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It looked so... so... captivating! Something about it just clicked for me. So, when Curious Village came out, I took initiative and actually bought it, and played it to death.
And the rest is history~
I've played all the games, own the movie, and eagerly anticipate Majora'sMiracle Mask. Unwound Future is my personal favorite, 'cause it's just mind-blowingly awesome. Curious Village and Last Specter are tied for second. 'Course, I still love Diabolical Box too.
@Boy
I can't wait 'till you play Unwound Future :D
Totally finished the Diabolical Box about an hour ago!
Such a tear-jerking ending, too. This was a fine game. I also became a tea master shortly after the ending. B)

Indeed, it is. I got teary-eyed when I first played through it. I mean, it's not outright SAD, but it's just so sweet you can't help but cry D: And the credits song! So good.
And the tea minigame is definitely one of my favorite minigames in the series. Not only do I love tea, but they put such a quirky Layton charm into it with the dialogue.
Unwound Future is up next! I'd be wary about playing TOO much Layton at one time, though... too much of similar things can make it loose some appeal. If I were you, I'd give Diabolical Box a month or two to settle in, then start Unwound Future. But, of course, it's up to you :D

Ohhh yes the tea minigame. I absolutely adored it. I liked getting Hatsworth (that's what I called him) into shape too. : D And I liked fiddling with the camera. And the photographs. This game had the best minigames.
That happens to be the plan. C: I need for the feelings to sink in so I'm gonna play some Lost Story.
^
Yeah, Curious Village didn't even really HAVE minigames. I mean, it had the puzzle, but... that's not really anything you wouldn't find in the main game, anyway. Unwound Future has awesome minigames, too.
I'm assuming Hatsworth comes from Henry Hatsworth? I never played that game, myself.
And good for you :> It'll make Unwound Future that much better. Last Story looks pretty awesome. I probably won't take the initiative to actually go out and buy it, but I love for good games to come out.

It had some game where you had to put furniture in Layton and Luke's hotel rooms or something, didn't it?
Anyway, yesss, how I love me a Layton game. I've beat the first three, but I have yet to play the Specter's Flute. I'd like to get it before summer ends if I can. And, man, I am SO PUMPED for the Ace Attorney crossover.
One of my favorite things about this series has always been the cinematic quality. I was blown away the first time I ever saw one of the cutscenes. They look like they came straight from an actual film.
Which totally reminds me I still need to buy the actual film they made wow how in the world do I keep forgetting about that

The movie is just as brilliant as the games itself, very well made and still keeps true to that old Layton formula. Truly worth watching.
And that puzzle music.
Did you solve the first puzzle almost instantly? I got the correct answer practically before he finished speaking the riddle. Was too easy, but I guess it's a movie =P

I didn't actually, I hadn't thought of the sky yet, that's why the movie was so brilliant, it just kept me at the edge of my seat =P
Yeah, I didn't get the first puzzle until Layton did (what else is new, seriously), but I got the second puzzle down pretty fast. And it's not just the puzzle music - all the music in that movie is fantastic.
@Feferi
Oh, yeah, I totally forgot about the room arrangement minigame in CV. That was pretty good.
I love the Professor Layton-series so much.
WHICH IS FUN, because my very first experience with the series was like: " Ahaha the art is fantastic but I just blew a lot of money on this why isn't it more engaging oh lord I have wasted my money "
and then I didn't touch it for a long while.
CONSIDERING I had just spent a lot of money on the first game, I decided to force!play so I at least got out of the beginning.
AND IT'S BEEN A ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS AND JOY SINCE.
THANK YOU, PAST!BUU. FOR TRYING. ♥
I have yet to play the 4th game.
I considered downloading it, but I could only find the US dub. @______@
I can't handle any Luke besides the UK Luke.
^
Soooo... go out and buy it! The more monies they get, the better!
Even if... if doesn't have London Life. I guess I'll let you download that ;D
UK Luke sounds weird to me. Not bad - I quickly got used to him when I watched Eternal Diva (since they didn't bother dubbing it with the English VAs), but I prefer US Luke. And I even think he sounds odd.
