Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

I was- although I was impressed by the variety of characters and unlocklables, and the music and graphics were great...

I found that the gameplay lacked the depth of the original. Things were over-complicated. On the original, the backgrounds were less distracting, on SSBM, I found myself not being able to see what's going on because of all the detail and bright colours, whilst the chracters moves were so fast that you never had a chance to counter, meaning that it was just a button-bash fest- and so I reluctantly sold it, keeping the original.

Anyone feel the same?

u must b new to the game.... that game beats out the original in everything... as for the "distracting backgrounds".. maybe u just have a short attention span.. cuz it never bottered me.. or ne of the ppl i play with... and a button masher?.... who were u playin?.. there r many more moves n melee than there were n SSM... and for good reason... u cant even beat a level nine just mashin buttons... let alone a fully compatent human with decent skill.. but too lat to change ur mind on the game since u sold it (Bad Move)

Almost... The game is too much of a fight fest... I never play it, the levels you can play in really suck, IMO. But it was fun to unlock characters.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

The original is infinitely better...

In the original...

1. The worlds, although there were less of them, were much, MUCH better designed.

2. The level hazards... in the original, the levels hazards like the bumper in the Mario bros level, or the Arwings in the Star Fox level were good. They could be predicted, used, but they were also more dangerous.

3. Dodging was much harder, but far more important.

4. Was less frantic. Some people consider this a good thing, but I don't.

5. Throwing items well was much more important. In melee, an item thrown at you generally isn't as bad as having an item thrown at you in the original. And throwing item at people from far away was much more satisfying too, for some reason.

6. The different characters were more unique. There were no clones... Since you couldn't power up smash attacks, each smash atack was unique, since they varied in speed and power.

The original Super Smash Bros is much better.

Button mashing is MUCH more effective in Melee then in the original.

Thumbs down

I could never understand why my friends liked it so much, I always lost because I frankly never liked button mashing. >_<

You think Melee or the original is all button-mashing? You obviously haven't played it enough.

I do admit the original was better but the new one wasn't that bad.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

SSB was more fun because it had a better feel to it, don't know why. SSBM is more... different. I like hitting people in the old one more. But I can't say SSBM sucks, but it's not that good.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

IT is better than number one, but it's not THAT much better. I'd prefer having different moves for all the characters and something else to spice it up.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

I LOVE both the original and SSBM (both among my favorites). I had more fun with Melee than any other game. The original was just great, and I have 100% of everything in both games.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

I like the new and old SSB but some things in the new game bothered me. Your logos on the bottom were too big, on bigger levels when the camera is zoomed out you couldn't see your character fighting because they are too big. If they made them a little smaller like in the original then it would be eaiser. I also didn't like how they didn't continue the unique character entrance to a round (Mario coming from a tube, Picachu from a Poke Ball, etc.) I hope they improve those but overall the new one I still liked.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

Both of them are great...but I prefer the new one because of the faster speed and better graphics and sound. There are things you couldn't do in the original, like dodge a Falcon Punch, grab the guy, hit him, throw him up, spike him, then throw them off, and as they try to get back, throw a Lip's Stick at them...

Gotta love combos.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

I thought the game was really good, and better than the original. I do agree with you, though, about the background being distracting. The final destination stage was very difficult to play on because of the constantly changing background.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

Once I got all the characters and stages, I got bored of it. I still have loads of fun when my friends are over, but it really lacks longlasting one player.

I prefer stages like Corneria, where the stage is a good size and there aren't any holes in the middles. I like Final Destination and Battlefield as well, but Corneria is still my favorite.

That's cause they made it freaky in Melee what with the strings holding the platforms. And the acid isn't as powerful so it saves instead of detroys. I like Big Blue. My eyes are so fast I can concentrate on the stage and my opponent while they struggle to stay off the road. Then I'll jump on the road and come up behind them.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

No no no, you're thinking of Samus's world... Sector Z is the Great Fox level in the original, and it's called Corneria in Melee.

Re: Anyone underwhelmed by Super Smash Bros Melee?

I liked the Corneria version more it wasnt so creepy. The gameplay is great with friends but it gets boring. So I have sights on Soul Caliber 2 right now.
