Shin Megami Tensei 4 and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers

Famitsu has some major Atlus news this week. The magazine reveals that development has started on Shin Megamitensei IV. The target for this latest numbered entry in the Megaten franchise is 3DS.

According to Sinobi, who gets Famitsu in advance, Atlus will open an official site for the game at megaten4.jp tomorrow.

So Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, is not the official SMT4? I'm intrigued. Strange Journey was tough, but great.

Also, a remake of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is coming to 3DS as well

Two more reasons for me to get a 3DS!

I always wanted to get into these games, but I'm also intimidated by them, and I don't really know where would be a good place to start. I'll look into these two games, and hopefully they end up being a good jumping on point.

Personas 3 and 4 are good places to start, as are the Devil Survivor games (which are completely separate from each other). SMT: Strange Journey is essentially Etrian Odyssey: SMT edition, which means it's lots of fun, but not necessarily typical of the series.

Anyways, nothing to be intimidated by. The combat mechanics are actually fairly simple most of the time, with most of the complexity coming from demon fusing, which the game gives you lots of help with.

Any news on the Persona game flr the 3DS?

I don't think there is a Persona game for the 3DS. For Vita? Yeah, P4: the Golden.

P5 is in development. Catherine was the Persona team's foray into HD, so maybe we'll see something on PS3 (and maybe 360).

Persona 3/4 or Devil Survivor are probably the easiest starts, since they're only spin offs and are relatively easy compared to other games in the series.

There seems to be a lot of people thinking P5 is going to be PS3 only.
But Catherine was both, and it was one of their biggest commercial successes to date. P4A is both as well.
If it's PS3 exclusive, it's only going to be that way in Japan. I'd still be able to play it if it were PS3 only, but i'd so much rather play it on the 360. But i'm fine either way.

But in light of this news, i'm going to have to beat Nocturne.... Uh...

And I've never played any Devil Summoner. Is this DS1 or 2, or a spin off of the spin off or what?

There's Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha 1 and 2 for the PS2.

And then there's Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers.

Oh, right, I forgot about the older ones.
Ok, yeah, that makes a lot more sense now.

At E3 2010, a game in the series was announced for the Nintendo 3DS system; all that is known at this point is that it will be part of the Persona series, it is unknown if it will be a port, remake, or a new game altogether.

I don't think a 3ds Persona is happening.
It was vaguely hinted at 2 years ago. And we haven't heard anything. Unless it's P5. And I really hope it's not P5.

Or, I suppose it could be, literally what they announced.
Just SMT: Persona. I guess it could be a full remake or something.

But still, I kind of doubt that too.

I loved the first devil survivor on the 3DS, and it remains my most played game on the system. I'm totally looking forward to this! I'm not 100% sure about soul hackers, but I'm very intrigued by whatever this 4th game is.

Shin Megami Tensei 4. The 5th (lol) game in the mainline Shin Megami Tensei series.

SMT1, SMT2 (SNES).
SMT3: Nocturne (PS2)
SMT: Strange Journey (DS)

They're all known to be pretty tough. And there are a bunch of spinoffs, making Megami Tensei a metaseries.

Second picture looks crazy medieval, though, so maybe timetravel is involved? That might be... crazy.

The two pictures send waaaay different vibes.

Yeah, timetravel would be a little weird. What would make more sense to me is some sort of travel between the demon world and the human world, but that still doesn't explain the medieval-ness of it. They look great though.
