I'm pretty sure he meant melt as in, not do so well as Nintendo says it will.

That's funny, I could swear that the DS was around for a few years first.
The DS wasn't the same width and length as the iPad though.

I'm also gonna bet that the U will melt within a month of use.
Then Pinkie Pie is sure you'll be glad to know that it's rumored Microsoft will be doing the exact same thing.

Re: Next-Gen not powerful enough? More ideas over tech?

I honestly don't really pay attention to specs that much. As long as they are more powerful than their previous generation's counterparts, I consider them fair game, and go after the games.

So I'm expecting I'll get a Wii U because Nintendo and a PS4 because...PS4.

Re: Next-Gen not powerful enough? More ideas over tech?

I think Sony and Microsoft should hold on to their current consoles as long as possible. I don't see the point in replacing them unless the new generation is able to show a dramatic improvement, and it doesn't seem like the technology for that is ready yet. A Playstation 3.5 is the last thing we want.

I would have felt more enthusiastic about David Cage's view if this was 2005, but then the Wii came and did exactly as he says, and not much came out of it. The software developers have to be the innovators.

Didn't Epic say some time ago that they were impressed with the WiiU? Huh.

Well, whatever. Don't really care. Just give me video games.

I hope to god people aren't expecting an N64-> GC or PS2 -> PS3 jump in graphics next gen.

Re: Next-Gen not powerful enough? More ideas over tech?

@Thread: No, I think they're powerful enough as is. So many companies are closing because the cost of making games is ballooning to ridiculous proportions and a large part of that has to do with how much is required to take advantage of the power of the current gen systems. I really think the eighth gen(barring the Wii U of course) should be put on hold for at least five years. We need to give developers time to get settled and prepared for the next major jump.

No, I think he meant it will actually melt. There was a discussion in the Wii U thread a while back on whether or not it had enough ventilation to keep it from overheating like the early 360s and PS3s.

I'd be very happy with a games industry that cuts back on the graphical arms race and realizes that producing colossally expensive games that need to sell millions upon millions of copies just to break even is self-defeating and foolish.

I mean, it would be hard not to be impressed with any improvements to the Wii.

You forget that to the higher ups of Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo. Its not about producing games to please us players, its about the money. Its better to just call them $ony, Micro$oft, and Nin$10do.

Re: Next-Gen not powerful enough? More ideas over tech?

The current generation couldn't do Crysis or The Witcher 2 complete justice (not denying that the console ports were still excellent, especially in the latter case). I'd say it's definitely time for improvement. I just read an article yesterday about the changes that needed to be made to The Witcher 2 in order to release it on the 360, and the RAM and CPU were huge limiting factors. I'm not even talking about the graphics card here, mind you.

I think technology moved a bit too fast. It would have been nice to see another 16-bit era or another 32-bit era.

That's... stupid.

Why should console developers deliberately hinder progress by not releasing the best product they can?

Because it's no longer a limitation, but an art style.

So many games from the PS2 era that didn't get sequels.

No. I am not sure if Pinkie Pie knows what I mean. I don't mean purposely hindering progress. I mean, like maybe Nintendo could have had a 32-bit console before the N64, and maybe then have a 64-bit console era. Or maybe just extend the lifespan of the consoles.

A next-gen GameCube?

We all remember how successful the last one was. :mock:

GameCube: 21.7 mil
Xbox: 24.6 mil
PS2: 153.7 mil

Did the Xbox really sale more than the Gamecube?

Re: Next-Gen not powerful enough? More ideas over tech?

It really shouldn't have. The XBox game library was mediocre compared to the library of the PS2 and GameCube. Even the Dreamcast's.
