Kingdom Hearts: Roxas vs. Sora

I have been playing Kingdom Hearts lately and I pose a question. Who do you think is better? Roxas or Sora.

Personally I like Roxas as a character more. Sora seems really cliche to me. I have seen so many stories where the main character is self-less and only cares about his friends. For one with such a huge burden Sora acts in a really casual manner.

Roxas' personality seems to be more realistic. Roxas, is lied to all of his life. All he wants to know is who he is and even one of his best friends, Axel, won't give that to him. A lot of people see him as whiny; someone who doesn't have much happiness in him. Put yourself in his shoes though. You are brought into the world your only purpose is to serve a mysterious organization, not even told who you are. You eventually lose your best friends, twice (Axel and Xion then Hayner, Olette and Pence). You lose control over your actions without having any say in the matter (Roxas being absorbed by Sora). Wouldn't you be miserable? Even so, he does have some points were he is happy. When he gets to eat ice-cream with Axel and Xion, and whenever he hangs out with Hayner, Olette and Pence. His personality seems much more realistic to me.

I wouldn't say Sora is cliche. he was less selfless in KH2. All he wanted was to find his friends and go back to his island.
sure he helped a lot of people but that was only because he thought doing all these things would help him find his friends.
and most of the people he helped we're friends and allies from the first Kingdom Hearts.

But Honestly, I like Roxas better than Sora. Nor out of pity for his situation, but because he's a good character. At first I hated him thinking, "Where is Sora? I don't wanna play this guy!" But he eventually grew on me.
PLus, he's not such a goodie too shoes, he borders on good and bad and I've always loved that in a character. as of Sora is completely good and light.

358/2 Days was my first Kingdom Hearts game, so naturally Roxas is going to be my favorite.

Sora really doesn't have much personality or character development.

Are they like the same person?
I have to say Roxas (sorry Sora hon).
Roxas has one of the best character designs and the greatest background story.

Even though my vote is for Roxas I am going to disagree here. Sora does have character development. Throughout the games he puts his friends before himself. He even puts total strangers before himself (Alice in one case). He is self-less. Sure as stated by Ghost of Mater, he just wants to go back to his island with Riku and Kairi; but whenever someone has a problem he helps them out.

Now for the Roxas comparison :3 Roxas will help others if he gets the chance and cares for his friends as well. He just puts himself before others if it comes down to that. If helping someone else is going to turn against him, he keeps to himself. Also, if he has the chance to learn about himself he disregards everything else and will fight anyone in his way.

Sora is selfless and Roxas will help but is ultimately selfish.

I can't really pick. I love playing as Sora- for a while, he's the kid who enjoys what he's got, and he's going from world to world with Disney characters, meeting people, making new friends and protecting the innocent. I love his naivety, and I can't wait to play him again in the new game, especially after the last few.

However, Roxas is quite a bit of a...antithesis to Sora. He didn't have much happiness, he was stiffled, not allowed to make friends or be seen on other worlds, and was mostly controlled. I like Roxas about as much as I like Sora, just for different reasons.

I prefer Roxas' theme, though, and some of his moments. The scene in KH2, where he shouts "My heart belongs to me" becomes quite tragic for me given what I now know about him.

I take it you haven't spoiled KH: DDD for yourself yet then.

After that, i think it's pretty even in terms of 'better' characterization between the two.

The fight is really much better in Final Mix+, where you actually get to fight him.

I'll agree that Sora doesn't really have... a character arc, but I'm picking him solely because KHI is the only game in the series I've ever played.
I don't know much about anything else beyond that game
But I do know that Sora rocks.

I can;y believe you haven'y played ne beyond the first.
after I played the first, I got the second, then got Re: Chain of Memories.
the fighting style sucks in ReL CoM, but it was ultimately a good game.

They are both likable characters. I have more nostalgia for Sora so I'm a bit biased towards him. Sora has higher battle strength, which is why I voted for him before I read the thread though.

In all honesty, I voted for Sora too. Even though I think I like Roxas better.
I can't really decide though.
But I'll tell you this. If it was a chose between Sora and Roxas to be in SSB4 I would choose Roxas.

I personally liked Sora better. Maybe it's the fact that I didn't really like being Roxas in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2. I just wanted to get back to being Sora. I have played a few of them. Both of the ones for the ps2. And I played a little bit of BBS. That game looked fun I just didn't have a psp of my own to play. If I played 358/2 maybe I would like Roxas better but I haven't.

And I don't think Sora is selfish. He helps his friends when they need to do something. Even though he does some of these things so he can go home and find his friends.

But Roxas and Sora are different but the same in a way. I wish I had a chance to play all of the other games.

Having played all of the Kingdom Hearts games I'll have to say Sora. Those saying Sora has no character development haven't really looked too deeply into the story. He has grown tremendously over the course of the series.

And KH3D really shows his growth (I'm waiting till its NA release to play it but I do know some tidbits) and he's going out for the Mark of Mastery exam which should prove how much he's grown in maturity and power.

Roxas of course! Roxas just seems like more of a cooler character in my opinion.

I think this thread is severely lacking in the choice of Terra.

I like Sora more, but Roxas is the better character, at least before DDD. Roxas is more capable of thinking for himself, while Sora, at least in my memory, is far more willing to take things at face value. There's a real legitimate reason for why Roxas doesn't know things, because he was basically just born. He got better, later. Sora just kinda feels naive throughout his games.

I've never played a game with Roxas in it.

I am sorry, I am just doing the two characters who are technically the same person. Plus I haven't played BBS (unfortunately :/) Maybe if I play it I'll create one for the 3 playable BBS characters; or you can beat me to the punch .

Yeah, I forgot to add that to my reasoning. Sora goes for the obvious path, Roxas still does at times, but later on thinks about it more. He is only alive for a year so of course he isn't the most knowledgeable.

I thought it was in a fight

Then Sora would definitely win.

Because I think Sora is annoying.
