Franchise Fatigue

I'll leave this broad and open for now...

Many times, when a franchise suffers from many installments released during a narrow time period, people begin to clatter that the franchise is "fatigued". This has occurred most prominently with recent reveals such as Halo 4, Resident Evil 6, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.


My questions to you today are very straightforward and simple :

1. Do you believe such a thing as franchise fatigue exists?
2. If so, what franchises would you deem fatigued?

1) Yes, it does. Caused by lack of motivation for a story line
2) This is an obvious one. Mother. Nintendo needs to either release it in a new way (even VC will do) or quit recognizing it's existence by bringing it up in Smash Brothers. It's too painful.

Franchises are things. Things don't get fatigued. People get fatigued. If Skyward Sword were the only Zelda game I had ever played, I would find it fresh. That I do not find it fresh is more a reflection of my experience of the series than of the series itself.

tl;dr franchise fatigue is highly subjective

Figuratively.

Some people get sick of playing the same kind of game again and again. Some people don't. As long as a game has a new interesting story and fresh environments I won't get tired of it.

Pokemon, probably. Only because I have beaten almost every game except the newer ones. The last one being Diamond.
