Mario Wii U has been confirmed for E3: Let the Speculation Begin!

Nintendo has said on the record that it will unveil the final version of the Wii U, due out in time for Christmas, at E3. Nintendo of America recently snapped up the domain SuperMario4.com. It was thought it related to Nintendo's already announced new side-scrolling Mario game for release on 3DS by the end of the financial year - April 2013. Could it in fact relate to a Super Mario Bros. Wii U?

If I were Nintendo (and assuming Mario Wii U was already in the works for a while), I'd make Mario a launch title, like Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 were.

Re: Mario Wii U has been confirmed for E3: Let the Speculation Begin!

I mean no disrespect to you, Guacamole, but...it isn't really shocking, or new, or...even interesting news that there will be a new Mario game on the next Nintendo console.

Granted, this is my opinion.

Though, when I think about it, it is reasonably fair to post this in General Gaming, considering that it reveals a very tiny tidbit of what we can expect from E3, (though I always expect something Mario, to be honest).

Now, if this were in the News section at the top of the forum...

(I hopefully don't have to worry, as this is Mario and not Zelda, but the articles up there have been...floor-scraping many times.)

@ManofRedHelms

While it's not crazy to think a Nintendo console would have a Mario title, it is cool to know we'll be hearing about one at E3. Especially since that means it could be a launch title, and no Nintendo console or handheld has launched with a new Mario game since the N64.

I think we all know that a Mario title will release for Wii U, but the fact that it's a launch title and releasing in 6 months is what merits some discussion.

I'd like to know about the approach this Mario title will take. Will the style be something akin to Little Big Planet? How will it take advantage of the tablet? Etc.

Geez, the Wii U already looks really promising. Then again, that was said about the Wii in 2006.

Something that bothers me about this is that they just made 3d Land, and they already have another 3DS mario on the way. How do they suddenly have the manpower to release three mario games within a year?

My theory:

I want Retro to make the next Zelda.

I'm hoping for Monolith Soft to give me a grand scale adventure/rpg. Xenoblade was amazing.

My theory:

Mario's general gameplay seems pretty easy to recycle. It even seems to work for them, too. Heck, I wouldn't mind a new 3D Mario that is as simple as Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine in terms of platforming. I believe the Wii saw many, many Mario games too, didn't it? I might be wrong on that one, but it seems as though Mario was, and still is, always just around the corner.

Oh yay, another, more than likely poor, Mario game. Nothing to get excited about IMO.

Oh god, I hope not. I'd much rather see them work on a game much more worth their time ie. anything but Mario.

Re: Mario Wii U has been confirmed for E3: Let the Speculation Begin!

They really, really need to change the name of the Wii U. It doesn't sound like a new console, it sounds like an expansion set like the Balance Board, Wii Motion Plus or even DSi. It will cause brand confusion much like what happened with the 3DS. My brother (a fairly avid gamer with an 360 and PS3 but not much of an interest in Nintendo right now) thought it was an add-on for the Wii till I explained it was supposed to be a new console.

Nintendo's Bringing New Wii U Pikmin and Mario to E3 [Update]

Yeah, so it looks like this Mario game is actually that New Super Mario Bros. Mii "experience" they showed off at last E3.

I got to admit, this lessens my excitement a little bit. The "New" series really need to die off with it's lazy, half-assed presentation and music quality. My only hope is that they radically re-designed the aesthetics and renamed it "Super Mario Bros. 4" as that earlier rumor suggested.

Anyway, this also is interesting because a 2D Mario was also confirmed for the 3DS last month. Are they two versions of the same game? We'll have to wait and see.

Lots of Mario coming our way, it seems. Can't really say I'm complaining, aside from the indication that it's still part of the "New" series.

Or maybe Retro is going to give us a grandscale adventure RPG and Monolift Soft is going to make the next Zelda?

^ Is that highlighted part in reference to my post? Cause I don't see how that contradicts anything I said.

Oh gawd, I hope it's not another "new" Super Mario Bros game. There is really nothing "new" about it anymore. I would much rather it be another 3D Mario game. As long as it isn't Super Mario Galaxy 3 -- that series needs to die as well.

There were rumors that Retro was working on an OoT Zelda/Sheik project several years ago that involved stealth, sandbox elements and a DMC-like combat system. It's possible that they could be reviving it. Doubtful, but possible.

As for Monolith Soft, it's a bit confusing. They said that they were working on on a Wii-U RPG game back in June and released a snippet of concept art. Now they're saying that they're not interested in Wii-U at the moment and are instead working on a 3DS title. There were also rumors from Neogaf that a journalist got a sneak preview of an image of their next game on some sort of pamplet. Something involving 3 people looking at a crashed ufo in a desert. (take that with a grain of salt, though.)

Anyways, here's the concept art for the Wii-U game.

Oh! I saw that. It sparked some rumors of a new Baten Kaitos game, since it resembles a locale from those games.
