Kid Icarus Uprising: General Thread

So this game is probably one of Nintendo's most hyped titles for the 3DS, it comes out in the US and Europe in two days and Australia in six days...and we don't have a thread for it? Well don't worry, now we have one.

So what are your thoughts on Kid Icarus? Have you pre-ordered? What do you expect? Do you like it if you already have it?

I'll probably get it, but I'm a bit worried since I'm left handed, and I'm not sure how that will work out. O:

I saw a commercial on TV a week ago and was pretty impressed. I'm definitely gonna think long and hard about this, but I'll probably get it regardless of what I decide now.

I think most games that require a lot of touch-screen handling have a right/left option to choose from.

I have to worry about the fact that I lost my pen, though.

I'll get it tomorrow as soon as I'm free, don't know where will I get it, or how much will I pay.

But one thing is sure.

I'm definitely getting it tomorrow too, I've been interested in this game for quite a while and it's been getting great reviews for the most part, so I'm really looking forward to trying it out for myself!

I'm gonna pick it up right before I start work in the morning so I can just book it home after my shift's over and start playing.

The aspect that sold me on this game was the weapons. The RPG-like depth to them is just too awesome.

Dunno about you guys, but I'm looking forward to the online multiplayer. It's going to be laggy as all get out with the seizure-inducing gameplay, but it'll still be fun. The Metroid Prime Hunters of 3DS online play.

For anyone who has the game, is there a left handed option? Please say yes, Nintendo has never let me down before with the DS touch screen dilemma.

Also, I could have gotten it today, but GameStop said that they were only giving out copies of the game to the people that preordered. I saw about 50+ copies of the game in the room back there, and they said they were only giving them to preorder people. Those bastards.

This is March 23rd, right?

I think so. It basically makes you use the axby buttons instead of the circle pad and flips the trigger button from the L to the R.

I pre-ordered this on the 22nd from amazon so I probably won't get it until next week..The game seems great though with a lot of reply value. So many weapons! Also the music seems really nice from what I've heard so far.

Anyway, got the game and finished the first four chapters and I love it! It's really fun and fast-paced, and gets really challenging if you raise the intensity level, so far I've only died once, but I haven't set the intensity any higher than 5.

I also love the dialogue, it's so stupid and bad and cheesy and awesome, seriously it's half of the game's appeal.

And I haven't even tried the multiplayer game! I got a friend who also got it and I can't wait 'till we play Together.

Oh yeah, I read something that seems like a pretty good idea for the controls. Someone recommended using the DS thumb stylus for this game. I think that it'll be fairly comfortable like that, but I'll try it once I get it.

Whaaa! Those bastards! I ordered mine only two days ago..but I guess there's no pre-order bonus now so I guess paying $10 more is ok.

This game is awesome! The 3DS is entirely worth it just for this one game! I'm only on chapter eight but I'm ready for more games in this series.

That's good news for a lefty! I hope it wont feel too awkward though aiming with the buttons.

I woke up this morning thinking "I really need to play Kid Icarus: Uprising!". Mostly because I really badly wanted to know if the controls were as terrible as some reviews made them out to be. So I walked into a store, hoping they would have it, and for some reason it was 15 euros below the normal price? Fine by me. Anyways, after playing it for two hours, I can safely conclude that:

...The middle finger on my left hand is in all sorts of pain. But, the first thing I did was go tweak the sensitivity settings, and it works pretty nicely! It's just... not safe to play it for prolonged periods of time, without taking at least a moments break every now and then (not surprisingly, you'll get in game notifications that you aught to take a break).

I did try playing the first level on an intensity level of 7, and... yeah, I barely made it. I literally had no health bar left when the boss died. There's a surprising amount of strategy to the game, it's not all button-mashing/swiping. Definitely recommend the game, it's been a fantastic experience so far.

Lefty controls
I tried flipping it over, and moving Pit with ABXY isn't bad at all, not nearly as bad as trying to aim with them. What does work very nicely, however, is moving pit with ABXY, and aiming with the circle pad. I still went with the defaults (remapping a couple buttons), but it's a viable alternative. Then there's the option to aim with the D-Pad, and it's just... weird.

Using the AXBY buttons to move Pit is annoying since it makes it hard to move at angles. I think the main control scheme works best.

I wonder if this thing has compatibility with the circle pad pro accesory thing, that'd be like, perfect.
