What ways can Nintendo infiltrate the mobile market?

We have to eventually come to grips with the fact that Apple and Google (Android) are tearing into the gaming industry. It is pretty much the elephant in the room that gaming developers such as Nintendo is well aware of but is ignoring in the hopes that gamers will too.

While these mobile-platformed games lack the quality, length and expansiveness of their console peers, they do offer quick and convenient fun that is also addictive. They also provide a level of social interaction and networking that is simply unparalleled. I liken this to the modern age of mp3's: mp3's lack the quality of CD's, but very few people care enough to even notice the difference because it's much more convenient to have thousands of your favorite songs in your pocket than it is to carry CD's, which not only lack the portability and convenience, but also the storage capacity.

Nintendo is eventually going to have to come to grips with the fact that they can't continue to ignore the increasing presence of mobile games. While Nintendo certainly has its life-long fans, at some point they are going to have to deal with real-life economics: is it really worth it producing consoles for those few die-hard fans? Can we really continue to do this and make sufficient revenue to continue producing our consoles? In an age where people are [perhaps unknowingly] sacrificing quality for convenience, at what point will video game consoles stop becoming the standard, and start becoming novel relics?

I am in no way suggesting that this is the end for Nintendo, but I do know that they will eventually have to foray into the mobile market, and not simply with a new handheld console, but with something that is convenient and provides social interaction.

My question is, what ideas do you have that Nintendo could use to keep them relevant into today's mobile market.

Re: What ways can Nintendo infiltrate the mobile market?

Ipod and Android gaming are primarily played by people who aren't gamers. Nintendo has no real fear from any handhelp, except POSSIBLY the Vita, but that's still yet to be seen. Real gamers are the people buying games and they will continue to buy consoles keeping Apple and Androind from even becoming contenders.

Allow the 3DS to play videos and there's absolutely nothing an company can do to stop Nintendo. Aside from that, there's nothing Nintendo has to do.

I don't want Nintendo to do that. I don't like the mobile market at all.

They need to keep the games and the system cheap; why would anyone buy a 40$ game if they can get one for 4 on their phone? The average consumer probably doesn't care much about the length or quality of a game.

Because people aren't like me that like having physical copies of games, unless I have a really hard time accessing a physical copy. This is because my phone can always break. I actually don't like phones in general. Never been really interested in one, because I don't find a use for one.
