Yeah it seems its a bit late for this but I was going to post a thread like this in January, but I have been busy. Plus nothing notable has come out in the past couple of months(easy FF fanboys) So I figured it was now or never.
So which pieces of videogame music from the previous year caught your eye?
Mod noteHey guys, remember to keep your youtube videos in spoiler tags [espoilers] if you're gonna post three or more at a time!
Xenoblade by far, it has one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever. As for individual songs from the game that I loved, here are 3, though to be honest, I could just as easily have posted 30:
I've never played Catherine, but I knew that song sounded familiar and then I realised it was from the New World Symphony. I played it in my old school band.
Out of all of the games last year Skyrim definitely had the best soundtrack in my opinion. Just a few of my favourites...
Personally I wasnt too much of a fan of the Skyward Sword OST but from all the other games I can't say there was anything else that even sounded like it had as much work put into it so I'll have to go with Skyward Sword.

I'd have to say the three I was most impressed with were Devil Survivor Overclocked and Shadows of the Damned.
Shadows of the Damned was EASILY the best though. Akira really knows how to make a perfect soundtrack to fit a game.
I'm not going to bother posting a video, but do yourself a favour and check out a tune or two from the game.
Special shout out to Corpse Party as well. I can't believe I almost forgot about that one.
There are really only two things that game has going for it, and they're both done quite well. The first is the script. The game is well written. The second is the music, which was just phenomenal.
Here's a tune:
Spoiler:
Here's one from Devil Survivor as well.
What really blew me away was how it was more orchestral then you'd have thought they'd make it. It was a treat to listen too. The heavy metal theme was nice though.
This one actually gives me goosbumps. And dude, that is NOT easy too do. God damn. Never mind. Upon hearing this song again, I can't believe i'm saying it, but Akira has been topped. For last year anyway.
I dunno, these are 3 of the most memorable themes of 2011. I especially love the first one. It's so freaking fantastic. The other two, especially the first of the other 2, being remixes are....excellent. Remixception on Number 2 I would say.
Skyrim wins this for me, without a doubt. No other game has even been close to dragging me in as much in a long time. The music is absolutely one of the many reasons for this.
I think I liked the AC Revelations OST best. Most of all Road to Masyaf.
EDIT: Youtube links got screwed up. Too late for me to feel like fixing them.
AC:R's soundtrack was definitely one of the better parts of the game. Though I like Road to Masyaf the Unsubtle Approach sounds a bit more epic (though it's too short!)
I may post Youtube videos later, but I'm too tired. Here's my Top Ten 2011 Game Soundtracks.
10. Portal 2
9. Xenoblade
8. Skyrim
7. Radiant Historia
6. Skyward Sword
5. Pokemon Black and White
4. Rayman Origins
3. Dark Souls
2. Professor Layton and the Last Specter
1. Trine 2
Skylanders: Spyro's Quest and Kirby's Return to Dreamland are pretty close.
Skyward Sword, to me, but I didn't play that many games in 2011 to be honest except for ST and Pokemon Soul Silver, and Halo CE: Anniversary, but that music is really old. If ME3 came out holiday like it was supposed to, that would right up there. Black Ops was meh. SS was the only one that stood out, aside from Halo, but that's just an old game repackaged.
I just think SS had some beautiful, touching music, and is another reason why I want to try to go to the concert here in Orlando.

Bastion takes the cake. That link there is for their whole soundtrack, free to listen to. I'd listen to #12 & #17 specifically, but all of it is excellent.
AC:R's soundtrack was definitely one of the better parts of the game. Though I like Road to Masyaf the Unsubtle Approach sounds a bit more epic (though it's too short!)
Ahhh, Laboured and Lost is amazing too.
Aw man, I forgot about Unstable Approach. Definitely more epic and fit in perfectly with the ship scene. There's one other song but I can't find it on Youtube. It's a song that plays during missions. It always plays in the beginning when you're looking for the Templar captain in the town.
