And I'm not supposed to use Seth because he's already a Paladin, am I? D: And he seems so awesome...

Seth is...an interesting case. Unlike many others of that particular archetype (Jeigan), Seth is actually really solid throughout the whole game. Kinda like Titania from Path of Radiance. Seth should not be abused in the first parts of the game because he will eat experience away from the rest of your team. Hes great to have around for utility and laying the smack down on particularly troublesome enemies. (Just try not to have him eat boss kills. Your lords and stuff want that experience.) Like in that one chapter where theres villagers in the corner (Fog of War chapter) and a spider is coming for them. Seth is good there. He can Leeroy Jenkins that ♥♥♥♥ and get to those villagers. Him and Vanessa both work well for that. (if you keep all dem villagers alive, you get a goodie at the end of the chapter.) Since Sacred Stones allows for some srs level grinding with the Tower of Valni (optional of course), using Seth in the main game doesnt hurt everyone else as much as one would think. Support him with Eirika and watch things die.
To recruit allies, a lot of the time there will be conditions to be met. Like having Ross speak to Eirika and then having Ross talk to Garcia. And junk like that. In chapter 5 (i think...) you get a cleric chick named Natasha and you want her to talk to that myrmidon bloke with the sweet, sweet hat that appears near the arena. Sounds hard and it can be a pain but friggin a is Joshua worth it! There are loads of others. Try everything but make sure those enemy units (who arent bosses) that have their own dialogue and sprite mug, dont die. Like recruiting Amelia...Shes like super weak and can be killed with one shot. But Franz talking to her makes her join you. (and she can become awesome.)
Not really. While he can be completely outclassed by Sain, Kent, Lowen and even Isadora, hes not like super ♥♥♥♥ty. Marcus is excellent for utility purposes even when hes not doing a lot of combat. Ferrying around people, rescuing, getting items to people, etc. In the first chapters of Eliwoods/Hectors story, Marcus is really helpful with aiding in clearing a path and stuff. So he doesnt outright suck. His incarnation in FE6 is flippin balls though. But i do recall one guy in FE6 (i think his name is Zealot) who comes as a prepromoted Paladin, whos
even worse than Marcus. Yeap.
