Re: Tales of Symphonia?
I preordered it a EB Games. Still haven't gotten my artboook. But anyway, yes. I've played it, I've beaten it, and loaned it to a friend who also beat it. The storyline seems to range from somewhat cheesy to extremely cheesy, but that's something I like about it. Then there's Zelos. Good game. The New Game+ mode only improves it.

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
It was...meh...to me. It's graphics weren't all that great, but the animations were well done, and the anime scenes, although few, were really good too. I like the old Tales games better though, even without all the eye candy. Oh, and the cheesy voice acting.

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
^^ Tales of Symphonia is a very good game. I've gone through it at least three times, and I still haven't all the side quests done,so the game is definitely not short on side quests, and the storyline is very good in my opinion.

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
Just a note on sidequests, Symphonia's definition of alot (not all) of them are very much relish onto the already built plot, so the majority are essentially a string of scenes of which you don't gain anything other than character or setting insight.
Oh, and I got my hands on Eternia, and certainly ToS outdoes the VA in Eternia. Eternia's VA didn't really have their hearts into it.. |

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
I love the storyline, I love the characters. I love the music.
But I hate the horrible backgrounds, the battle system, and the battle music. Needless to say, I haven't gotten far enough into it to beat it. I'll likely retry it...eventually.

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
Real-time just doesn't work in 2-D, especially when playing single-player. The faulty battle system is made up for by the multi-player. I prefer real-time RPGs such as PSO and Fable to games such as this, simply because real-time and 2D don't mix very well. If it had been 3D, free-roaming real-time battle (Fable-style) I'd have loved it.

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
You can't see anybody else in multi-player, the camera focuses on Player one. As for the battle music, it's fine I know your not very far in the game but I'm assuming you haven't gotten to a specific part where the music changes. Just play it till you get past the Tower of Salvation.

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
The battle system has been core of the series since day one, and sprites were used consistantly in all its games. It's a tried and true method, and I see it being satisfactory to most RPG gamers. Then, 3D RPGs have their own category.
Oh, and for the curious the PS2 version has rid of the multiplayer fault where it focuses on one player. |

Re: Tales of Symphonia?
Yeah. Only in Japan. Only in Japan. So for you, it must be..well.. a breeze! It's got added extras like more costumes, titles, Anime CG (only 2 though) skills, sidequests and most importantly.. Hi-Ougi! And one of the best additions to the credits. A CG series of all the characters. The CGs are actually pieces of Fanart. http://www.psx2tech.com/talesofforum/viewtopic.php?t=87 (topic with nearly all changes, but it has media with it) http://n.ethz.ch/student/wmartin/ (Hi-Ougi Videos can be found here) As for songs, these are my pics: Lloyd theme Kratos theme Full Force Rest of the Heart Water Symphony Romany Caravan Escape from Enemy Base Collet ~it is sad~ Presea's theme On the Hill one night Like a Glint of Light Shihna's theme Rest of the Heart - Sanctuary Forest of Treant Zelos ~Serious Arrangement~ (brings a tear.. ;_; ) Fighting of the Spirit (Symphonia's Remix is so cool!) The Law of Battle The End of the Thought (goes really well with Kratos' Theme) Beat the Angel Last Battle ~Decisio |
