In all seriousness though, I usually stayed away from High Elves because of their racial weaknesses. In the past two games they have had a natural weakness to all types of magic making them outstandingly flimsy in combat. Their increased magicka doesn't really make up for it.
I always stated away from Bretons because they looked really stupid. I quite liked the very tall naturally disease resistant fellows for being mages.

and I never feel like it's good enough playing a hybrid.

I went with an Imperial... 'cause their faces were the smoothest. >_> Got the PS3 version (due to dodgy laptop paranoia), the reversible cover's pretty.

I feel tempted to leave my character wood chopping whilst I sleep, but I'd feel like the biggest cheapskate.

Just spent the last 5 hours Khajiit-ing.

Feels good man.

Very happy with this game.

I mean sure, your abilities are watered down once you hit a high level, but rolling a Dunmer Nightblade was the most fun I've ever had with Oblivion. I eventually got my speed all the way up to 100 and I would run around the battlefield tossing magic spells between hacks of my dagger. It was awesome.

For some reason I'm starting to get different attitudes toward the races now that I'm not playing a Dunmer. It's strange, but now that I'm getting into the mindset of playing an Orc I feel like I don't hate Khajiits as much. Maybe that'll change once they start snarking at me with their stupid cat faces but the urge to play Skyrim with the objective of killing every Khajiit in the game is slowly fading.

Also, I just discovered the PC's interface is the same as the one from the console. Nothing mods can't fix, but this still pisses me off to some degree. If they spent so much time developing the perfect GUI they could've considered the platform half their audience plays on. Nothing mods won't fix, but still, it makes me mad. Makes me want to murder Khajiits.

I'd originally intended to play a High Elf or a Dark Elf, but at the character creation I switched my mind and went Breton, because I thought they looked a lot nicer.

I preloaded on Steam thinking I would get to play tonight at midnight...

Forgot Steam bases its release times on Pacific time...

I'm in Central time... :<

Actually, based on Steam's actual countdown, it looks like we'll have it at 11pm tonight.

Unfortunately, I'm covering somebody's 7am shift tomorrow, so I'm going to be crazy by going to bed early tonight and getting up at 4am.

Not fair, Aussies! I have to work 2:30 to 7:00 tomorrow. It's a short-ass shift, but the whole time, I will be perseverating over buying this thing. SDLGSLGKJ

Gotta pick a Breton I guess, most of the races look incredibly stupid especially the Elves. I don't recall them having slit eyes like that in the other games (At least not to such a stupid degree) as well as them always being dirty.

I think my first assessment of them looking like beef jerky was fairly accurate.

Mer have had slanted eyes since Arena and the only game in which their faces weren't elongated was Oblivion. I for one welcome their change in appearance, they look more like elves now and less like humans with pointy ears and different colored skin. My only hope is that they not only look, but sound appropriate too. Dunmer should have scratchy voices, Bosmer should have high pitched voices and Altmer should have silky, elegant voices. The Oblivion elf voice fit perfectly for Wood Elves but didn't quite sound right on anyone else.

Eh, the eyes weren't nearly as bad on Morrowind though. The skin wasn't so weird or anything either. There is something wrong when you get to choose "Dirt" and "Dirt color"

Although besides that the game seems pretty cool so far.

Well if it's any consolation, I bought the game at around 4pm yesterday afternoon, an hour or so before my shift started. I had a miserable night at work, and my sister continuously texted me about how awesome Skyrim was.

Also, I recall the mer (especially the dunmer) having ridiculously slanted eyes in Morrowind and to a lesser extent, Daggerfall. My only gripe with the character models is that I can't get rid of their insane frown lines. Anyway, you can change the eye shape - the character gen is more like Dragon Age's, or at least it is on the PS3 (and presumably360) version.

Also, I love the foggy look of the mountains, really gorgeous. :3

I still hate how they look, maybe I can't put my finger on it so well but there is definitely something up with the skin maybe.

Oh well, it's first person and people are going to be wearing clothes and armor so it's really no big deal, just a bit of a nitpick.

and while the eyes were slanted in morrowind they didn't look so...wrong.

I like the whole dual wielding thing especially, even magic which is pretty damn cool I think. (Though the effects for say, healing look a bit weird.)

Oh yeah, and that user interface is really terrible, you can't click stuff you have to hit enter or something.

Looks bad, etc.

Rest of the game is fine though, but hey what's a Bethesda game without issues.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Buggier than a lollipop in an antfarm

So has everyone decided on what they're playing when the game drops?

I typically main an assassin/marksman-esque thief (which looks AWESOME with the coup de grâce feature). I'll probably make one of those then roll a straight barbarian/knight/crusader or something and focus on murdering all the dragons.

Also I REALLY want the magicka issues from Oblivion to be fixed to make it a bit more viable. And if I can hybrid my assassin with magicka abilities...

The UI's fine on console versions, apparently it's a pain in the arse to navigate on PC however. Otherwise, it's much cleaner than Oblivion's, which I like.

Probably mage but I don't know, I enjoyed Marksman the most in Oblivion but I heard that firing bows is slower and worse in Skyrim or something.

and I've never really liked being a melee assassin because, you're outclassed in straight combat, in groups you can only ever get one with a sneak attack (well usually)

and you always needed a ridiculous sneak level to get close enough to hit from behind with a dagger or something.
