I played MGS3: Snake Eater

I heard there was a playable demo of MGS3 attached to the current issue of OPM. I immediatly went and bought it the next day.

The first great change I noticed? The music. No more boring techno drums. The music in this game is the bomb. Very cool mix of techno, orchestra and electric guitars.

Second thing I noticed? The AI. This baby's been pumped up to the max. If you want to sneak, you're gonna have to really plan ahead, unlike MGS2, because of it's use of halls and such. Not much planning was needed. MGS3 forces you to sneak, because frankly, fighting the enemy is way harder, too.

The visuals I won't comment on, since it's not the cleaned, unfinished version of the game. But I can say that they it improved by alot, but not as much as the transition from games like Halo to Halo 2. Hopefully they'll amp it up even more before it's released.

Kojima keeps the humor in his games. Try talking to each support team member a few times. Some of the dialogue actually made me laugh.

The camouflage is also very interesting. Changing between the different camouflage patterns to blend in with the area is quite an amazing new thing. Sometimes, when I was on the ground, hiding, I couldn't see Snake myself!

But the most noticeable change to the combat in this game is the CQC (Close Quarters Combat). It's usefulness makes things much more varied when it comes down to thinking on how to proceed through the area.

For example; you can use the punch punch kick combo. Or you can slam the enemy into the ground with your free arm, knocking him out. You can also grab them with your free arm and hold them against you, him facing away(Basically holding them by the neck). This is where you'll get the most options. You can interrogate him, throw him on the ground and point your gun at him, point your gun out Splinter Cell-style (the enemy will hesitate to shoot you while you are doing this) or just execute the good old fashioned knife-to-the-throat death technique.

Nothing else to say about the game than that. The new eat-to-survive integrated with the stamina bar mechanic is interesting, but nothing too special.

Radek out.

Wow, sounds great...so close to coming out. Of course, from the hype it looks like it will be one of the best games ever..o_o;

I played it to. There were some minor annoyances with the demo. But it looks to be some kind of god.

Very true. It reset after you didn't hit any buttons for about a minute. Very annoying when you are trying to stay still to avoid the enemy.

The other annoying thing in this demo was that Snake had alot of trouble hugging walls. It took a while to get him positioned against a wall right.

Not to mention the loading that would occur when you go to the radio screen. And maybe it's just the introduction mission that has the problem, but it was pretty linear. Other than that, I played it over and over again.

Yes tigerboi, I hope in the actual game, there will be 60+ "rooms" in the jungle, nothing too straighrforward like in MGS and MGS2

Probably just the demo. There will be no loading times for the radio screen in the actual game. And yes, I think that Kojima wanted the prologue to be linear, and fast to get through.

Sounds sweet Radek. Finally, it sounds like Konami may have crafted a 3D Metal Gear game that outdoes the 2D showstopper Metal Gear 2....

Re: I played MGS3: Snake Eater

I played the demo too, it's awesome. Except for the long loading times, japanese voiceovers and resetting when you hide from a guard >=/ I love throwing a grenade into the indian gavial's mouths lol. They get a ? over their head then blow up. Although it's fun to snipe and shotgun all the guards, I also beat it with just the knife and M-22 Tranq because that'll probably be all you get at the beginning in the final game. Also I was mad you didn't get to see Ocelot at the end of the demo >=/ But the game looks awesome anyway...

Your just jealous because you didn't get to play it. Stop being an ass.

Sounds like an awesome game. I loved the first and the second one. Those new moves and techniques that Snake can use sound pretty sweet can't wait to check that out.
