The Sony PSP Thread

I don't think there has been a thread about the Sony PSP yet, correct me if i'm wrong. Anyway, with the PSP's release approaching in Japan, more and more is becoming known about the new system. Are you guys looking forward to this system less, more or equal to the Nintendo DS? Personally, I will have to get them both

I've been checking IGN.com regularly for info on this thing, and here's what i've found so far:

For those worried about scratching the beautiful LCD screen (like I was) Sony is putting some type of hard covering over it which is suppossed to make the thing hard to scratch. A bit reassuring.

The 4.3 inch screen is great! *drools* it's almost the size of the two DS screens put together!

The PSP plays movies and music! Yeah we all knew this a long time ago, but I can't wait to watch Advent Children on this thing.

The two things i'm worried about is battery life and price. (Although the batteries are rechargable)

Opinions?

Re: The Sony PSP Thread

I'm going to get it once the price goes down QUITE a bit, and Advent Children is being made for DVD also so theres really no rush for me to buy a PSP, I am however very excited about DS and am going to get it on release date.

Huh? Advent Children is only going to be on DVD....CRAP! Oh well...

I think I'd rather get the DS, but if I could play my fav RPG's from the PS2 on the PSP heck yeah I'll get it.

Re: The Sony PSP Thread

Well some remakes of PS2 games are coming out, but i'm mostly looking forward to playing Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Acid. The DS also looks awesome (hence my sig)...but yeah, my major concern right now is price of the PSP

from what I understand, all of the major RPG companies are already signed with Nintendo, SquareEnix for example... I dno about you but the rpg game list for DS seems a bit more... intriguing to me compared to the PSP's rpg list

You'll be pleased to know it's only 17 cm wide, then.

Not to mention being roughly 4/5 the volume of the DS.

Re: The Sony PSP Thread

But you can still easily stuff either one in your pocket, and the Nintendo DS has a sort of cover. I usually have coins, a pencil and a bunch of other stuff in my pocket wich would scratch the PSP screen over time. I really liked GBA SP becauseit closed up and the screen was protected quite well in my pocket unlike my Gameboy Color.

I hope the PSP crashes and burns! I hate [;aystatin, X-Box is da best, but it's not that i hate it this time.

The psp is "supposedly" coming out soon, IT'S NOT! if anyone watches G4tech Tv, you'd know it's only 56% completed...sad isn't it?

Also batterey life is "supposedly" 30 hours, well i highly doubt that

well that sentance makes me practically believe that it should almost be done. I have my doubts about it doing well because of the price, it is probably physically the better system, debatable due to 1 screen compared to 2 screens, but that just shows that possibly the DS is indeed a completely new system genre in itself like nintendo claims.

Re: The Sony PSP Thread

What do you mean 56% done? don't they already have all the hardware completed?

Sony is running ads in Japan, I ahve never heard of a company running ads(the little barcode thing was in a print ad) for a product that is 56% completed. Maybe they plan on making up indecent amount of time though.

And no one credible has ever claimed that the PSP's battery life would be anywhere near 30 hours. Try 1/3 of that and you'd still be on the projected high end of possible battery life times.

I find one interesting thing to be that the PSPs at the TGS were all running off of Memory Stick Pro Duo and not off of UMD. The point of it being that the UMD might be a relativly expensive format if demos were being run off of it. Memory sticks might just ave been more conveinient though.

I don't plan on buying one immedietly, perhaps when the library of games acttualy has titles that are to the same value as PS2 titles. But everythign so far seem to eb a watered-down version of some PS2 title.

not nearly to the degree as the PSP, and for the fact that the list of games is not comparable either.

Re: The Sony PSP Thread

Nice design. For whatever reason, this is the first I've seen of the PSP's appearance.
Well, I am looking very much forward to the release of the PSP, as well as the DS. Both have titles that pique my interest, so I'll probably wind up getting both... eventually.

Really, now?

Why, just yesterday I heard news that it will be released in Japan by December 12th this year. Or, were you referring to the US release date? Doesn't matter really, they're pushing for a March 31st US release, which isn't that late into 2005 at all.

I linked a source to support what I said. Care to do the same?
You cannot expect anyone to believe you if you've no proof to back it up with.

Ah, and to anyone curious about the PSP and wants some questions answered, read that arcticle. It gives a price in Yen (which is around $200 USD), gives information on the battery life (4-6 hours), as well as prices of accessories and some other various details.
