The Future of Video Gaming

Okies, I haven't seen this around before, so...yeah.

Anyone have any cool ideas that could be introduced to video gaming in the near future? Since most of us are young teens and such, we'll be able to take part in the technological advances that seem to be happening pretty quickly.

Anyone who's seen .hack//SIGN, played the .hack//GAMES, or watched .hack//DUSK, and liked it, would obviously like this.

Neuro-goggles. Virtual reality, light weight helmets that put you in the eye of your character. When you move, your characters head moves, so on and so forth.

Well, that's just an example. Try to think of some innovative ideas no one's thought of ^_^

It's already been invented. It just costs too much for the average middle class family.

True, it may cost a lot, but what he's saying is in the future when it won't cost that much (just look at the original Gameboy...it cost $100. Not many average middle class families could afford that for their kids. It took a couple of years untill the price was reasonable).

As far as ideas go...I remember there was an article talking about it in a magazine...one of the ideas stated was having a special room made for projecting pictures on the walls. While playing a video game, you would have to put on this special suite, the projector will turn on and project the scenary on the walls (I take it that the walls are round with no corners). Whenever you take a step in your suite, the scenary will react to it. So it would seem like you are walking about in a feild or something. This is just one idea that the magazine gave out. When I go back home (durring Thanksgiving) I may put the ideas in here (that is, if I remember, or if this thread is still active by then).

Yes but that was when a hundred dollars was quite a bit, nowadays it's the $300-$400 range that is woozy. I was thinking of virtual reality too but if you were walking wouldn't you eventually run into the wall? I was at this arcade where they had Tekken up on a bigscreen and two people would stand on platforms and punch the air, the character in the screen would do the same except actually hit the opponent. It was pretty cool but probably cost a fortune to get one in your house.

I've played Tekken with that platform at an arcade at Vegas once, and it doesn't work. I had to punch and kick at least 15 times to get my character to do something, and in the end he took one step back.

Re: The Future of Video Gaming

Some really neat ideas I have been pondering for quite a bit is to have Pixar's animation technicians team up with Sony to make a new revolution in videogame graphics, considerning Pixars high detail in there movies, they could easily put PS4 on the list. The other idea is to have special glasses that can be used in person or 4 person games. These's glases will eliminate the use of a split screen and sticking together, because your player will show up on the lenses.

The 3rd idea seems to be a Matrix rip-off in a way, but make special pads for your arms and legs and a special helmet that puts you in the game literally as in you move, your character moves. That however, is far ahead of it's time and too unrealistic.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything but...I was just thinking about the downside of having (like Squall mentioned) special glasses. Doesn't anyone think that these glasses will cause some damage to people's eyes? Yes I know there are warning labels on every game about having seisures, and/or other conditions that related to your eyes, but you should sit at least 15ft away from your T.V. for your eyes to function properly....now with the "special glasses", I wonder how that will be a delema.

Re: The Future of Video Gaming

There was a VR headset announced for Japan for the PS2. I don't know what became of it, if it was even ever sold. It was a Sony product.

Fighting games have had stand-up and kick and punch things since genesis, at least. I have an ad for one. I can't picture it working well.

For a fighting game there should be a control system that works somethign liek and analog golf swing and deciding which attack to make together. I want to be able to more precisely coordiante characters. It could work to open up a lot more in the line of fighting games or even RPGs.

I've been searching throughout the net (Google.com) and found a site talking about the VR headset

Another site talked about having VR headsets for the Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn...but throughout their testing, the people got motion sickness (something the future must look into if they are thinking about having VR headsets).

*Goes off to find other theories on future video games*
