|OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Just clearing it up:

Vigil Games: WiiU is "more powerful" than PS3/360; Darksiders II WiiU hints - NeoGAF

The WiiU is a new console, and is more powerful than the PS3. How much so, absolutely no idea.

Discuss the WiiU in here. Note that in E3 season I am set to kill and even the slightest infringement of the rules results in an incredibly slow and painful death, possibly involving a chair, a donkey, two midgets and a flamethrower. You have been warned.

EDIT: Engadget did an interview with IBM, who said the WiiU uses a 45 nm customized chip. The only 45nm line that IBM uses is the POWER&, which runs at between 3.1 and 4.3 GHz. For reference, the PS3 is 3.2 GHz. The WiiU is therefore at least as powerful as the PS3, if not considerably more.

I think the system looks great! Both graphic-wise and the appearance of the console and controller themselves. :3

I'm expecting some amazing titles to launch for this baby. Oh yeah.

Graphics-wise we don't know anything Ranil, because all that was shown were multi-plats. =/

A technical demo isn't really representative of what can be done in real time.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Before people come here and start annoying everybody, the Wii U is a new CONSOLE. IT IS NOT JUST A CONTROLLER.

And you can use Wii remotes!

Does anyone know about Gamecube compatibility? If anything they could simply make it so that the new controller is a Gamecube controller.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

I hope I'm not the only one that thinks the controller is going to be one uncomfortable mother♡♡♡♡er

The whole "streaming to controller" thing is a great thought, especially if the console is somewhere in your house other than where you happen to feel like playing or if someone is hogging the TV, but from what I read, most of what was shown were multiplatform games and vague tech demos.

I wasn't really that excited for this. I guess it's just as vague as any console reveal, but I'll wait until we see real stuff before getting excited. The 3DS games piqued my interest more, and the fact that Nintendo is apparently beginning to focus more on connectivity and the Internet may mean that the 3DS is in for some treats too.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

My main thought is that I'm excited to finally see first-party Nintendo games in HD. That, and I think there can potentially be some compelling uses for the controller.

That said, I really wish they'd either released this thing sooner, or held off until they had more compelling hardware. While we don't know the exact specs, it's very clearly not a generational leap ahead of anybody, so I foresee the third-party lineup consisting of a lot of stuff also available on systems I already own. The fact that it's not launching until late 2012 at the earliest also makes it much less attractive, since it'll not only look dated by the time the Xbox and PS successors emerge only a year or two later, but it'll likely struggle to maintain third-party support when developers choose to move on to the true next-gen consoles.

The good news for Nintendo is that it will inevitably sell to the mass market on the post-DS/Wii strength of Nintendo's brand alone, but as a device that aims to recapture the 'core' gamer and the support of third-party developers, it seems a little ill-timed and ill-conceived.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Yeah, the controller is terribly designed in terms of button placement and ergonomics. Seriously sticks on top of buttons? ♡♡♡♡ that ♡♡♡♡.

It is a little more powerful than the PS3, so what? The multiplats are going to be made to 360 standards anyways and once Microsoft and Sony announce their console Nintendo better hope that they don't blow the U out of the water graphically because they'll be back to the same place they are now, minus the price advantage that won over many casual gamers.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

I'm really excited.

It looks fun, innovative, new and exciting. Offers some awesome new opportunities in game, and it's going to make it interesting to pick which console to buy multiplatform games on. I said to Jodd that I wanted a Kinect for Mass Effect 3, and he pointed out that Wii U would probably incorporate the tactical squad stuff onto the touch screen, which would be awesome.

First page.

I'm not sure why Nintendo stuck with the "Wii" title for their new console. To most people, the Wii is just a casual system, and they don't think it's good for serious gaming. This announcement just backs up their claim.

Uh, no. I honestly don't think the other two companies will be able to make a console that completely blows it out of the water, more powerful, yes, but only slightly. They're all 1080p consoles, not one 480p and two 720p-1080p's.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Just like with the Wii, Nintendo's announcement trailer shows that they aren't capable of taking advantage of their own system's potential. Boo.

Also, I heard somewhere that WiiU media would be proprietary. Confirm? I heard some people complaining about what would happen with Ninty and 3rd parties if this was true.

Also, saying Wii-U over and over again sounds like a siren.

The Wii brought them a huge new audience with family and 'casual' gamers. Keeping the name but showing more devoted gamers that they're going back to more serious games lets them bring in the best of both worlds.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

if its as powerful as a PS3 then nintendo will once again be behind in the graphics department once sony and microsoft reveal there new consoles. so id hope the wii U has far superior grapics then the current gen consoles.

i know graphics is not the main thing that drives games, but at the same time im tired of nintendo being 1 generation behind the other 2 consoles when it comes to hardware and graphics. its been that way since the PS1 first launched.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

No it hasn't? The N64 was the most powerful console of its generation and the GameCube was much more powerful than the PS2 and only ever so slightly less than the XBox. The Wii is the first generation since the NES where Nintendo has been weakest.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Why is it that nobody mentioned in the conference or the internet that THEY DIDN'T EVEN SHOW THE CONSOLE TO US?

Seriously, what does it look like?! (not talking about the controller)

They did, very briefly, but it was in the background and you could barely see it. Let me find a picture.

No more sharp corners! the Wii's greatest downfall was all the eyes poked out. No more!

Also, I still can't stop making a weeou weeou weeou sound every time someone mentions the console. Seriously, one of the launch titles has to be a firetruck simulator, or I shall be very cross.
