It's just going to suck to lose all your save data for VC games, if it's anything like the DSi to the 3DS.

It'll still support Classic Controllers and the newer, PS2ier model looks pretty Smash friendly. Certainly, when I played Melee and Brawl on a PS2 controller running through my trusty adapter, that worked pretty great.
Gamecube seems to be out, though, it doesn't look like there's any ports for it.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Important bits:

-No backwards compatibility with the GameCube, no slots for GameCube memory cards or controllers.

-4USB ports possibly to a attach to a WiiU controller recharging dock.

-No ethernet jack, may be WiFi only.

This is the Wii U Console in my Ink-Stained Hands

Quote:
This is the Wii U console, the part of Nintendo's big new gaming machine that's been getting a lot less attention than its stunning screen-based controller. I got my hands on the console today. Take a video tour with me.

A few important notes:

1) There is an error in the video... I thought that the Wii U could be stood vertically, but the pieces of plastic I describe in the video as feet are not feet. The Wii U will not stand, not on its own. It needs to lie down.

2) You can see four USB ports for this system and an SD Card slot. You won't see an Ethernet jack, suggesting that, like the Wii, this Nintendo console is made to go online strictly via Wi-Fi. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime cautioned me not to conclude that. Sounds like this design, while apparently final, is still open to some tweaks.

3) You won't see GameCube memory card slots, which the Wii had. That's because Wii U can play Wii games, but isn't backwards compatible to GameCube.

4) You won't see a way to plug the rechargable screen controller into the Wii U. The yellow port I point out in the video is power, the black port an AV port. Perhaps the controller plugs into USB, or there'll be a USB power dock? Hard to say. We've not been shown whatever charging station will be used to recharge the controller.

5) The unit didn't feel much heavier than a Wii, though it's not clear if this unit is a finished device with all the required guts. The machine seems to be about as wide as a Wii, and similarly thick, but it does appear to be longer. To use a metaphor rather than an actual size comparison, think of the relative relationship between letter size paper and legal size paper.

6) I hadn't realized until I was done handling the unit that I had some ink on my left hand—whoops! I got a little ink on the system's front hatch. It wiped off with a tissue. I apologized profusely.

I like the hardware. It looks good. What do you think?

I hope it can stand vertically, there's no more room on my drawers for another device to lie horizontally.

So what's all this about using screenshots of the 360 and PS3 to demonstrate the Wii U?

GoNintendo - Iwata - Wii U likely to cost more than 20,000

Quote:
Wondering just how much the Wii U is going to cost when it comes out? Nintendo's Satoru Iwata shed some light on the situation, saying that it's likely the system could end up being priced over 20,000. That equates to about $250 if you do a direct conversion, but you have to factor in Nintendo's pricing approach in each area of the world. Are you willing to pay more than $250 for a Wii U?
$250-$300 would be lovely.

The third party trailers for WiiU were a bunch of clips taken from 360/PS3 versions of those games, not the WiiU since the console isn't final. Reggie did say that the actual ports will be comparable, if not better, though they'll likely just look as good at best since they weren't made for WiiU initially.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Not being able to play Gamecube games on WiiU is a real disappointment for me, but I guess this is a good reason to keep my Wii and maybe buy a new one. Hey, $99!

It cannot stand vertically. It has to be lying down.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Of course the Wii U will cost over 250$ like that story said.

I mean the 3DS costs 250$, Nintendo hates selling at a loss so it really depends on the specs that will be used on the console which we don't really know as of yet. That tablet controller looks expensive though.

But at the same time, not having Gamecube compatibility could lower production costs right?

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Remember that tech demo with the Japanese garden that most of us thought was just a pre-rendered video? According to Reggie, that was all in real-time (I don't remember where I saw that, but since the Zelda tech demo looked better than a squeenix cutscene it isn't surprising). Considering this, I think that the Wii U is going to blow the PS360 out of the water graphically, and will likely compete with the next generation.

I don't know about you guys, but I really loved that tech demo with the bird. The colors were beautiful, the music was excellent, I had a hard time contrasting the bird's physical movement to that of a real bird, and the graphics were powerful enough to shut up any graphic whore.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Reggie says that they would play and look perfectly fine on WiiU anyways, so why bother? It probably saved them a ton of hassle while preparing for their conference.

Everyone (Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo) has done this multiple times. It doesn't matter in the slightest.

I am a little dissapointed that you won't be able to use multiple weeyoo controllers on one console, but I guess I don't really mind. Me and my friends will most likely play online anyways. And that tech demo with the fish and birds was awesome. Like seriously it was fantastic. I also hope that Zelda HD tech demo will be made into a game.

You know how we call the Wii Remote the "Wiimote"?

Can we call the Weeyoo's controller the uPad?

From what I've gathered, that demo was like the Zelda demo, you could mess with it with the controller, like add rain to it and stuff.
