Yeah, well that's stupid, and I highly doubt it.

Yeah? Well I hear that the PS4 has a sledge hammer that comes out and smashes you in the face if you dare try to unplug it.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

I am now reassured about the graphics of the Weeyoo, because that 3rd party reel was actually being run on the PS3/360, not the Weeyoo. And considering that the Zelda tech demo looked better than a Square Enix cutscene while being in real time and not having pre-rendered graphics, I think it's safe to say that this console is significantly more powerful than the current gen.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Oh well, I'd rather use the classic controller pro or a Wiimote+ with a nunchuck anyway. The new controller would be cool for singleplayer games or online, though.

Speaking of Wiimotion +, does anyone think that it will be used more for the Weeyoo? It's disgustingly underused, after all.

In any case, even though I was kind of put off at first, I am definitely getting this console. From what I can tell from the specs and the Zelda tech demo, the graphics are in a new league.

Oh wow. That's just horrible. What happens if your controller breaks?

EDIT: Apparently it's a mistranslation. You can buy standalone Weeyoo controllers. Only one can be used at a time though:

Quote:
The rep also told us that multiplayer games being created for the system are only being designed to accomodate one tablet-style controller, whilst other players will need to use a Wiimote
Okay, so Nintendo goes on about expanding gaming's audience (presumably beyond what they already have with the Wii), yet they restrict the multiplayer games to those who have the controllers of an old console and requires those who DON'T have one to buy some?

Weeyoo is doomed as a mainstream device.

I mean, what were Nintendo even thinking? If Weeyoo's multiplayer almost relies on Wiimotes, why even release the tabletPC controller? Why not release a better/modified Wiimote and Nunchuk? Prolly because Nintendo felt like it had to include a gimmick.

Does this mean that Wiimotes are gonna go down in price?

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

I've owned every single Nintendo home console up to now and none of them have disappointed me. Like I said in the E3 thread, I thought they had a great show and the Wii U looks amazing. I'm expecting Batman, ACR and Darksiders to be just the tip of the iceberg and judging by what Riccitiello said during the Wii U presentation, we are very possibly going to see a Battlefield game, maybe even BF3, on the system, with full online support.

Very excited to hear more, hopefully soon.

... which is why it was a bad idea to build the console around that controller in the first place.

Except I'm not talking about the 3DS nor do I care about it. EA, the biggest publisher in the world, is on-board. Ubisoft announced a new Wii U exclusive, and is bringing an Assassin's Creed game too. Ninja Gaiden 3 is gonna be on it, Battlefield, Arkham City, Tekken. Those are huge third-party titles, sequels to critically acclaimed games.

Nintendo has never had this much support this early on and now they can actually prove it. No wait, they already did.

What I'm saying is that, if the 3DS is anything to go by, those games might be a large chunk of the iceberg, not just the tip.

I think it is. Those controllers are supposedly hella expensive.

And I'm saying the support at this point already far surpasses any and all support they've received in the past. Third-parties still have most likely more than a year to get used to the devkits, the hardware and try new things. And since horsepower isn't an issue, we're likely to see most, if not all, multi-platform games on the system that couldn't be done on the Wii, such as LA Noire, CoD, Mass Effect, Bioshock and such. There'd be no reason for developers NOT to include Wii U as a release platform. And that's not counting possible IP's from third-parties.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Somebody commented in one of these threads that it didn't matter, because the 360 and PS3 will still be the base platform. That's not true. It's going to be really easy on this familiar hardware to up the resolution or framerate on the Wii U and add some AA compared to the base platform.

Also, it's interesting that Nintendo is strictly using LPCM for its surround sound, rather than licensing technology from DTS or Dolby. If Nintendo isn't going to pay for those licensing fees, there's no way that they're going to pay for Blu-ray or DVD licensing.

Re: |OT| Nintendo Wii U: The Wonderful 101* We're not forgetting anyone.

Oh speaking of disc formats, it was announced yesterday that the Wii U will use a proprietary disc format called iDensity, which will be 25 GB single-layer. So they basically made their own Blu-ray disc, only without the whole being able to watch movies thing. Thank god Netflix is on everything now.

No, it won't upscale Wii games.

I second this question. I think it's easy to assume that the WiiU will still have the Wii's Virtual Console, but it's not so easy to say the same thing about the Gamecube games.

If you don't own an iPad/Kindle (like many of us), try holding a thin book and act out as if pressing buttons. Does that feel uncomfortable? But let's face it, not all games will need the touch screen, and for those games, I'm sure people would just recommend using the Nintendo Wii Classic Controller.

Quote:
The whole "streaming to controller" thing is a great thought, especially if the console is somewhere in your house other than where you happen to feel like playing or if someone is hogging the TV...
Second. I wonder how far away can we play the games away from the WiiU console. I mean, I saw that Sony has created something VERY similar to this where you'll be able to play PS3 games on your PSP (and vice versa). So your home console game is never limited to where you are. So far only one game has this function: a Metal Gear game. I'm going to check online what is the name of this program because I can't remember it.

Well that's obvious. As time goes on, technology advances. I mean, if we look at the Wii, Nintendo had 6 years to come up with the WiiU and it just meets Sony's and Microsoft's current generation consoles. Graphics wise, there will be some point in time where it won't matter what a game looks like, but what it can do. Unless video games start developing holograms with force feedback, and touch sensitive areas (like you can tell the difference if an area you're touching is soft or scaly), then graphics will be put into play again.

I think Nintendo has realized that more and more multiplayer games are done online.

Quote:

That's how it goes for all technology. Out with the old, in with the new. The old gets cheaper, and the new is expensive. Go out and see how much a DSi costs. I'm quite sure it's cheaper than when it originally came out.

I disagree in this case. With only one WiiU controller per console, the Wiimote will be more relevant than ever.
