Underrated and Overrated Games:

List a game that you think is underrated, and one that you think is overrated, and provide a good reason why you think so (or a decent one.)

Overrated: Halo...fun, but the story line was pretty bad and single player isn't as fun as 16 people playing multiplayer.

Underrated: Suoikoden III-FUN rpg, just doesn't get any recognition for some reason.

What? Halo's storyline was awesome! Still, a lot of the level designs blew. Great FPS, but way overhyped.

Underrated game would be Plok! for the SNES. One of the best platformers ever made (and I hate platformers).
Your main weapon is throwing your limbs at your enemies like boomerangs, and everything else was nice, even though the game was a bit short. (And for an SNES, the music was awesome.)

Overated: Halo.

Underrated: Legend of Legaia, Final Fantasy X.

Overrated: Final Fantasy X-2. It was a panty-pinchin' game, It's awsome yes, but it's a bit of a fanboys dream.

Underrated: Chrono Trigger. This game is so awsome and it broke so many traditional R.P.G fundamentals, yet not that many people have discoverd it's brilance, not even some of the gaming community.

Overrated: Final Fantasy X-2. It was a panty-pinchin' game, It's awsome yes, but it's a bit of a fanboys dream.

And that is the state of the gaming world. (Only I hated both FFX's) True gamers can appreciate an experience such as Chrono Trigger. However, most people would rather play games that have fancy graphics and no gameplay. Just as long as it looks nice, and people will buy it these days. What happened to the good ol' days when developers toiled for ages on the actual gameplay? It happens today still, just not often enough.

overrated: sonic heroes, it is the worst sonic game ever

underrated: Beyond Good & Evil (look it up), great storyline, music, and gameplay, yet most of the people reading this post probably don't know it exists. Ubisoft probably didn't have enough money to advertise it.

Oh yeah, that game was OK, the graphics weren't great but it was lots of fun. And I liked FFX-2...and I'm a girl...I liked the battle system and I was really happy when Yuna got back with Tidus

ANother underrated game is .hack games. The story line is great, but some people don't like the complications of it and the plot twists and such after the first two. I never got tired of leveling up, and Balmung ROCKS!

Not to mention the last three levels were essentailly previous levels only played backwards. Still, it is the best FPS ever.... unless you count Metroid Prime.

No way dude. I recently finished that game 100%, and although it doesn't live up to Sonic 3 & Knuckles and the two DC games, it was an excellent addition to the series and easily one of the greatest games of 2004.

Overrated game: Splinter Cell, probably just because it's just not my cup of tea but it was just too predictable. Walk that way, hide in that shadow, run over there. Meh, I'm probably just being a bit of a whinger.

Underrated games: Blast Corps, one of Rare's finest games ever made. Too bad only three people bought a copy. Perfect Dark, a fantastic game with a heap more options than GoldenEye ever had, brilliant levels, story, weapons, quite simply one of the greatest games of the last generation of consoles. Unfortunately, not a lot of people really know about this game (at least where I live anyway). When that game came out Fireball and I walked all over town to track down a copy and ended up paying about thirty dollars more than we expected. It was worth it.

overrated: I'm with the majority when I say.... halo... good game, fun but not great.

Underrated: Tales of phantasia (the first "tales" of the series) and um...gun-suit valkyrie

Let me just say that although Sonic was definitely a fun game on its own merit, it's not what I would call "one of the best games of 2004." There a lot of better competition out there, and I'm sorry to say that Sonic Heroes is just a let down on Sonic Team itself since it had a Perfect (capital P) opportunity to fix the problems that had been in recent 3-D Sonic games, such as the camera angles (although I didn't have THAT much of a problem with it), some generic stages (I'm starting to find the levels in 3-D Sonic games become somewhat stale), etc... However, I'll give it credit for making it the closest 3-D Sonic to its 2-D roots.

Getting back on-topic:
I've realized that most people have though of Halo as being overrated, and I believe that it's a great game to say the least. The only problem I had with it is that there are some places in the game that are plain boring. Let me share an experience with you: I played versus mode with my cousin on multiplayer mode (obviously), and I would spend a solid 2 hours playing on a level filled with mountains and two ends to grab the flag, leaving an open space for a player to be killed so easily. Yeah, the game levels could have been designed much, much better. But, it's still a fun game nonetheless.

I would just like to say that I admire the Metal Gear Solid series, and I'm dissappointed that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was placed on the number 2 spot on the 25 Most Overrated Games Of All Time. If people just took aside the fact that you play the game as naked person through a portion of the game, then the game wouldn't have been viewed as it is right now. And besides, the story wasn't that bad.

Under-rated:Final Fantasy III/VI, (and II/IV. and V) ChronoTrigger
FF6 has what many call the best storyline ever to grace a Final Fantasy and nearly all the later FFs borrow aspects from it, or modified characters/themes.
FFIV, and V also have good aspects.
CT is completely awesome on the whole.

Over-rated: most 3d games... Halo, when I played it for the the first time , I did not get what I was expecting, the game could have been executed better.
and perhaps FFVII, that's all I hear people talking about... but I cannot be surew as I have not played it...

Hmm... It sure sounds like everyone is tired of XBox fanboys never stopping about their beloved Halo...
