Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

I'm probably going off-topic, but I just wanted to say well done on Castle Town so far, guys! I wish I could have helped for more than I had, but I don't have so much time on weekdays.

Also off topic, I was just wondering how Hyrule Castle was going to fit with people's houses there? Are we going to make a teleporter or what?

Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

I take it you missed the part where I took the giant tower in the way of Zora's river & such and moved it thousands of blocks away?

Things can be rotated at arbitrary angles...it's just that angles that aren't in half-pi increments will make freaky looking stuff. Rotating the lost woods won't quite work, because of the bridge connection out into hyrule field. We could probably rotate it at the sacred meadow area without it seeming wrong (there are those 'walk through' points in the game that could hide any number of turns).

But can't we rotate it 90 degrees? The connection to hyrule field can just be one more corner.. It's not like anyone noticed that part anyway.

Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

Hmm, I think I need to look at it again, but wouldn't that require moving the kokiri forest and GDT as well, putting the GDT within sight of Hyrule Field?

Why are we ignoring the thing that 8bit said (by far the best option) and if that fails the tunnel to Zora's River idea, while leaving everything currently built in place like it should be?

You're right, GK! We should only ever talk about a single idea, because it is obviously a crime to talk about other possibilities.

this is too much hassle, maybe we should simply abandon this project all together and rebuild middle earth instead

Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

Hmm, actually...that could work, and it would leave plenty of room for screwing around in that space (although, given the closeness of the Zora river, kakariko, and the mountain, it'll still end up being crowded). Might even be able to build the Forest Temple right at its entrance instead of mucking about with portals, too...

The only problem is moving it would be a *****. It's too big to move in one go, I believe, and the destination is effectively the same location, so I'd have to copy it somewhere else bit by bit, then move the (rotated) copy back over that location, just to ensure nothing gets mucked up.

Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

The most important I would say for what you can see from where would be having death mountain viewable from outside temple of time, without that there it would look a bit empty. So would say kakariko and death mountain have to be in the correct place. The rest doesn't really matter, I think the rotating would be best though, at least then they will all fit.

Don't be sarcastic about something I'm not even saying. 8bit's idea is clearly the simplest and best option, so I don't see why we have to talk about cutting and rotating entire areas which are currently in the best positions without trying that out.

Why reword an entire chapter when you can just change the phrasing of the last line?

If the chapter will cause continuity problems in the future, and a rewrite creates a more elegantly phrased idea, then the rewrite is often worth the effort. I'm not saying rotation is the best answer, only that you shouldn't discount things out of hand.

Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

And I was just saying that having to rebuild something is not an excuse to do something half-assed.

And I agree about death mountain having to be visible and in the right spot. I personally think the sacred meadow should be teleported from the lost woods, but the rest of the woods should be attached to Kokiri.

:O

I personally think there are many many problems here.

Having Kokiri Forest , Zoras river AND Kakariko village all on the map without teleporters is already proven to be impossible, end of story. Hyrule field is simply crowded there.

If you put Death mountain on the correct location, its still a gamble if Kakariko village will be exactly correct.

Imagine building Kakariko Village and halfway you realise death mountain is not going to fit, it will be a big mess.

I think that (and i think GKANG agrees with me here as well) we need teleporters for Kakariko AND Zoras River. There are too many problems in Minecraft, like GKANG said, we need to build N , W , S , E only, we cant turn much at all. Tunnels can be fixed for the people that want to download and stuff.

But on another note, i see a lot of people talking about all this, which is great dont get me wrong, but progress lately has been painfully slow (in my honest opinion) and many people think that if they place down 1 block someone will tell them "You are doing it wrong" .... How can we solve these problems?

Ill quickly write down some rules that (until now) I think everyone agrees on:

- You have to measure buildings / areas, dungeons from the outside first, THEN later worry about the inside

For example the Hyrule Castle gate you have to measure from the Hyrule field Point of view, then try to put in the inside.

-Look at objects compared to the room/buildings, not compared to Link.

For example the Market area has like 20 different camera shots, but they all have link in a slightly different height. So you look at the buildings to compare how big objects are, NOT Link.

-Look at details, but dont look into every inch of the screen

I say this because people have been argueing about the most tiny things on the screen, while for example you cant make every object in the Market area, you have to choose and get the big picture right (in my opinion)

I think by following these rules, people can start on their own projects (Gerudo Valley and Lake Hylia are ready to get started on by the way) without worrying too much about people telling them they are doing it wrong.

Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

I don't get why in Kakariko if we run out of room, why not just build a fake 2.5D deat mountain, and just put the teleporter by the entrance.

^And think of it. In OoT, it was all 2.5d backgrounds. None of the areas were actuall connected.

Re: |OT| Minecraft Project New Hyrule: Castle Town

I'll be back to helping tomorrow.
GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD.

We need portals (they are portals, not teles. When you say tele it makes me think you think we will use the rune teles)

You cannot make it portal free just for "download". Why? Because of jabu. He needs a portal.
Someone said we shouldn't use any for downloading or some thing.

We should plot out kakariko. See if it fits. No buildings yet, just markings. Then we can decide wheat to do.
Since both won't fit, I think its best bet seeing if kakariko will.

But we get biome compliant side-grass, I believe, instead?

Have anyone tested out the HD patcher beta? Does it work?
