Probably Black 2 and Snivy. I'm a sucker for grass starters and Black's the game I got before, so I want a direct followup.

Yep they can: the alternate forms have normal sprites, but altered stats.

Ampharos has 55 base speed, Joleton has base 130, and a way better move pool

Here's the team I was thinking of for the main quest, as it were, if anyone's curious:
--Emboar
--Ampharos (like I said, fanboy)
--Psyduck (Golduck was a fairly solid water type when I used him in Platinum)
--Glaceon (although I would prefer Sneasel, it doesn't show up till later; Lapras was also considered)
--Krookodile
--Gothielle

This team would cover all the types, with a few weaknesses unfortunately granted. Mainly on Glaceon, since most Dragon-types know or can know a Fire-type move. Still, I was going for speed in getting the party; I can have all the base forms by the time I reach Nimbasa.

So I have three eggs sitting in my pc, anyone want one for bw/bw2? Each egg has a 1/3 chance of containing either a Budew, Houndour, or Skarmory.

Both of them. But I will play white 2 more because that is the one that you captured Reshiram in. The starters would be Oshawott for Black 2 and Tepig for white 2.

Can't get Glaceon pre-E4 in BW2. Twist Mountain is blocked off until you beat the main game. Aside from that, pretty good and well rounded team. If I could make a small suggestion, you could use a flying type (which you don't have). Also, since you can't get Glaceon, Golduck can learn Ice Beam and Blizzard by TM. And there's always Lapras as another Ice type, which would also cover water. I myself am thinking of using these:

Samurott
Lucario
Espeon
Arcanine
Flygon
Galvantula
Seviper
Skarmory
Beartic

I'll probably use these 9 pokemon. I'll be rotating of course. From what I've seen and heard from other people who have already played the games (importers), using more than 6 pokemon is really easy because of higher levels of wild pokemon and the lucky egg. And I'll probably use Watchog as my Cut/Strength HM Slave.

Thanks for the advice. I was actually thinking about the lack of Flying-type earlier. Can Lapras be gotten before the Opelucid Gym? If so, I'll probably go with it. I prefer it to Glaceon, anyway. And of course I'll need HM slaves, but those are fairly easy. Simipour makes for a good one, I've found.

Yes, Lapras is available before the Opelucid Gym.

By the way, Opelucid is no longer the 8th gym. Drayden (Opelucid) is now the 7th Gym Leader.

As far as Flying types go, there are a few good options that you can find in the pokedex link I gave. Also, Braviary and Mandibuzz become available fully evolved before you even get to Nimbasa (before 4th badge). But they are still exclusives.

Skarmory and Crobat are both very good options for flyers.

Yeah, I knew about the Gym order switch. I didn't know Mandibuzz was available so early, however. I did put it on my list just now though, so good to know that it all falls into place rather nicely.

I'd recommend a Flying- or Psychic-type, because Fighting-types can be rough. A Ground-type would be useful, too, but not altogether necessary. The same goes for Rock-types. I also wouldn't recommend overlapping types, but it doesn't really matter if you aren't going for a "real-world" competitive team. In game, you can have whatever Pokémon you want, if only because the AI doesn't react like a real human would. But it's your team anyway.

Ok, that makes more sense now. In that case, an Ice- or Electric-type would better round off the team. Eelektross makes for a great Electric-type because it has no weaknesses, but an Ice-type would be more effective with Dragon-types all over the place. That said, most Water-types can learn Ice-type moves, so in the end, it comes down to whether or not you're worried about STAB.

That is one thing that has annoyed me with him.

I wonder if one day there will be a Pokemon MMO (not that crappy one that gets advertised on Wikia sites) that essentially follows the classic handheld formula but on a larger scale. I'm amazed it hasn't come about yet to be honest. It almost seems perfect.
