Since you're playing FireRed, Soft Resetting is activated by holding A, B, Start, and Select.
Good luck, since SRing for a shiny can take a very long time (unless you get lucky).

Yeah, just keep soft-resetting. Keep in mind though that you've only got a 1 in 8192 chance of getting a shiny in any given attempt, so as Pyrax said it'll probably take a very long time.

That absolute worst thing about BW is the XP Slider. Expecially at lower levels and when you're grinding. Simply put, the higher you go, the less exp you get.

EX: We know that a level 3 Pidgey gives off 24 exp.
A lv5 pokemon would beat a level 3 Pidgey and get that 4 exp and grow to levl 6.
If the same pokemon fought another level 3 Pidgey, it'd get less than 24 exp.

That pissed me off when I was grinding.

My general impressions on BW so far are

The areas are large and it takes much more time to explore and traverse from town to town.

A better, more involved storyline ala Gen II.

A much harder difficulty leel which is a welcome thing.

Otherwise I think this is probably my personal worst generation so far (at least to the point in the game I'm in).
The music is forgettable, the designs are mostly awful (though there are some simply amazing ones!) and blargh. it just doesn't resonate that much with me. But it's anew experience.

But by no means is it a bad game. It's good. Just not my favourite.

Gengar and Clefable have, through trademarking and beta art, been proven to have been some of the earliest Pokémon made. (Coincidentally, they are also some of the first Pokémon when you list the original 151 by index number, with Gengar appearing shortly after Clefable.) Also, Clefairy was originally going to be the mascot of Pokémon (instead of Pikachu), so it was going to be a pretty important Pokémon. Gengar is known as the "Shadow Pokémon", but what exactly is it a shadow of? Take a look at a picture of Clefable, and then one of Gengar. Their body shapes are almost exactly alike, with the only major difference being that Clefable has a curl for its hair and tail, while Gengar has spikes. However, the shadow of an upright spiral like Clefable's tail would only be a line, or a spike.
Now look at their typings. One of normal-type, and the other has ghost-type. Due to their immunities, neither of them could hit the other with STAB attacks, since they'd just be immune to each other.

Well I can confirm that there is no The Lunchbox tarot major arcana, but I will admit that you may be a god. Dunno. You're not on Wikipedia as one though, which is where I got all the names from. :/

Porygon's not fully evolved, so that doesn't work, but Snorlax works quite well. If I devise a theme in which "Lunchbox" fits (Since "The Lunchbox" is too long"), Snorlax can be that.
