Fallout: New Vegas

Is anybody else playing this game? If so, we need to talk about it. If there's one thing that's more fun than New Vegas it's discussing it with other people. You know a game is good when you can discuss it for hours, talking about what you've found, what guns you like, monsters you've encountered, crazy VATS kills, et cetera.

So yeah, as you can probably tell I'm really liking this game so far. I hear a lot of criticism about it being "just an expansion pack" but you know what? That's exactly what Fallout 3 needed. The added variety in weapons and armor and the crafting system makes me want to explore the wasteland for hours on end. The bugs that plague the game are noticeable, but they are WAY overshadowed by just how fun and addictive the game world is.

So who else is playing this game? Due to the fact that it's pretty much just an add-on to Fallout 3 it's not gonna win awards but it exponentially expands what made Fallout 3 fun.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

All of the video store's copies of New Vegas were out. Literally every other game I saw on their shelves was still in stock.

So, anyways, Dead Rising 2 is pretty fun.

Really looking forward to it but I'm hesitant to actually make the purchase since I already own and love 3 and if it's not all that much better I might as well just play 3 some more. So I've got to rent it before I make the decision.

I just go to the place full of the religious Ghouls that want you to clear out the Nightkin in their basement. The Nightkin are ****ing horrifying ;_;.

So far it's a good game, but there are a lot of bugs, apparently. I haven't run into one yet, but the game ran really bad on my pc at first. I had to use a weird work around posted on a Fallout 3 modding website to get the framerate at a decent number.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

I love this game, but one of my guns has broken, the other is out of ammo, and I have no caps to buy anything. Looks like I will have to make a new character-I was barely out of Goodsprings.
Whats the best place to go on starting the game?

PS3 version just got patched, think it was 19MB's, don't know what it does yet. So far i haven't encountered too many problems, just one freeze in 5 hours.

I've had some bad experiences with the glitches in the games, I'm glad to know they are working on patches already.

Trust me, it's a LOT better. A lot of Fallout 3 wasn't broken so Obsidian didn't fix it. Sure, the graphics haven't changed, but that doesn't really matter. Ironsight aiming improves the combat a lot, and they've added a ton of variety to the weapons and armor you find. That alone is a huge improvement that makes the game at least twice as addictive as the first one.

And as for the glitches, I don't know about you guys but I've been playing for 9 hours and I haven't seen any bugs that get in the way with gameplay. All I've encountered so far are occasional floating scorpions, twitching corpses (that are always "stuck" in the ground) and a slow framerate at times, but I've yet to see any freezes or anything major. Xbox live recently put out an update for the game that should make these occurrences less common though.

Well Bethesda didn't have anything to do with the development of New Vegas so I doubt they'd beta test it when it's Obsidian's job.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

I'm thinking of getting this, but first two things.

1. Is this a sequel to Fallout 3? I haven't played Fallout 3, so should I do that before I get this game?

2. Has the PC version (the one I intend to buy) received proper patches and bug fixes yet?

This game doesn't pick up from where Fallout 3 left off. You don't have to be familiar with the first three games to be able to play this.

They're working on it, but the bugs won't kill the game. From what I know there aren't any patches yet but Obsidian's been working on it since release.

Welp, the crashing is now getting too terrible to play it. I didn't have any crashes until now I'm in the Gommorrah club in the Strip , but now it's crashing every 10 minutes or so.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

Having great fun with this game. It's better than what most others give it credit for. The game feels like there's almost twice as much to do as Fallout 3. Lots of weapons and armor, lots of factions, lots of fun.

Right now I think I'm going to try to ally with the NCR and maybe eventually the Rangers. If I've got my info straight, I think the Rangers are the ones that get the awesome armor on the title screen. That's my primary goal right now: To get that armor. xD

Number 1 on my list of console games to buy. I need this game damn it!

How did they handle level progression this time, same as in Fallout 3?

Bah! Get it on the PC! o.o The mods you could get for the last Fallout games were epic beyond belief. If you have the computer that can handle it, definitely get it on the PC.

It's pretty much the same, but you only get perks every other level instead of every level.

While this laptop is newish, I'm pretty sure I don't. I'll look up the specs though.

Alright then. How about hacking etc, is it all still kinda lame?

The hacking is the same and it's still annoying.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

Lockpicking is still the same, though, and I always found that easy and non-annoying.

Oh, the game also starts a lot quicker. Still has a good story and stuff, but when creating a new character they force you to do a lot less than Fallout 3 before beginning the actual game.

I found a Varmint Rifle Scope + silencer early in the game and have been executing convicts like no other.

Re: Fallout: New Vegas

Oh dude, where did you find the silencer for it? I've been using the same weapon as stealthily as possible, but I can't seem to find a silencer. I'd be unstoppable with one with such a high sneak skill.

I also already have more than 90k caps, thanks to winning the jackpots in the slot machines. Unfortunately I'm banned from 3 casinos because of it.
