Edit: I should note that Slimes seem to be able to spawn regardless of light, like Creepers, since my excavation room is extremely well lit.

Creepers don't spawn in light, they just don't die/become docile from the sun. Small slimes spawn in light.

Obsidian requires a diamond pick to mine. I have some obsidian, although I haven't decided what I want to do with it yet.


Zombies are possibly the least scary baddy in the game.

I'd rank them (from high to low):

Creeper
Skeleton
Spider
Zombie

and I don't know where to put slime.

It would keep them from spawning. (Unless they're coming from a dungeon) But seriously, zombies are harmless. It's the spiders, skeletons, and creepers you've got to watch for.

This is exactly right. Large slimes go on top of creeper, small slimes go bellow zombie.

GRAH. I spent hours (yes I bought it already lol) making an amazing base in this overhanging mountain, but then I died. Now for the past hour I've been trying to find the place but with no luck. It was an absolutely huge mountain too, if I saw it I'd recognize it instantly. But yeah, it not close to my spawn point because that's miles away from anything in the ocean.

I'M ADDICTED BUT AM RAGING.

While I'm here I might as well ask; is there any point in me looking for this place again? What I'm asking is, is the single player world absolutely MASSIVE or is it just 'big' enough that I have a chance?

Well you always respawn in the same place so there's a good chance you could find it again. You might want to create another shelter, however, and spend your days searching for it, but make sure you're able to return.

Well it didn't take me that long to find the place from when I spawned, but I'm still looking for it haha. I don't feel safe in these measly little shelters I'm making at night, I want my fort back. The quest continues. I hope this world isn't stupidly large.

It's an "infinite" map. (Actually not infinite, but the theoretical maximum size is several times the surface of the earth, assuming each square is a meter.)

So I have no chance really of finding it again. Sigh.

It's a shame, the base I'm building now has a spider rattling about somewhere and it makes me feel uneasy ):

Well, no, I believe it is actually infinate. The game just starts to get glitchy (first the level generator goes, generating only stone, then your movement gets all wonky) at about 4,000,000,000 km. (assuming each block is a meter)

I need to know how to prepare to kill spiders etc. Every time I see an enemy that isn't a zombie I just freak out because I have cowhide armour and an iron sword. I can never find pigs for tasty bacon either, and I don't know how to make the stove thing. I totally want to make those green weapons too.

...I see. (I just looked at the Minecraft wiki page on water now)

In that case, a building such as the one I made could still be done, only would have to be made in already-existing water, such as an ocean. None of the "oceans" in my first map were deep enough, otherwise I would have done that from the start. :/

If you found it once, you may be able to find it again.

The map may be absurdly huge, but wherever you first built that fort should be relatively close to your spawn point. Even if you walked a long ways before building it, compared to the rest of the world it should be close by.

I've started to make outhouses now for when it turns to night next to caves I want to explore lol. This one is like a mini castle where I can kill enemies through the windows and has an underground storage / crafting room. I also found that using torches as waypoints is a great way to keep track of where things are. If I get a few hundred I'll be tempted to make a compass and plot out torches from my base to the spawn point.

Oh man, I got hopelessly lost in a cave for aaaages, but I walked out with 8 diamonds and some gold, as well as a ton more iron.

They seem to spawn in my cave systems even in spite of my torches sometimes. I've had Huge Slimes spawn in light too.

Yes. Definitely. Put torches everywhere you go!! The light makes you safe...stay in the light!!

Slimes are pathetic. They go at the bottom. My list is identical to yours. :3

Take eight pieces of stone and shape them into a box, leaving the middle space empty. That makes a furnace. (Do the same thing out of wood to make a chest.)

Talking of which, I'm going to try and get a bucket of lava to heat my furnace tonight.

What does the sickle thing do?
