****'s starting to get real for Nintendo, thanks to their collaboration with third/second parties! Maybe we'll see something at GDC? Otherwise, I would expect updates in the next couple of weeks.
Edit: Anyone want to fix the thread title? It's apparently really hard to spell in anagram.
FINALLY, something about Metroid Other M. I've been dying just to hear anything official about it. Though this isn't much, I'm calm and I can wait a little longer for some info. :>
And? It's obvious the Mother Brain is a prototype Aurora Unit, we're basically told as much in Corruption. She'll have just uploaded herself or something like that. Besides Other M -> M Other, or Mother. The title basically gives it away. The Other M is the Mother Brain.
Its supposed to take place after Super Metroid though^.
How is that possible? Samus looks only about 16 in the trailer, and it shows the Captain she mentions in Fusion, which means she is still in the marines. I think this is obviously a prequel to pretty much every metroid.

I hope so, although I doubt she will sound anything like in KotOR, which is the game I know her the best from.

It has been officially announced to take place between Super and Fusion. I'm assuming that bit we see is a flashback of sorts - after all, we also see the Mother Brain vs. Super Metroid fight, and that's clearly a flashback. This means that at the time this game takes place, Samus is about 26, for reference.
Why are people pleased that this reminds them of Final Fantasy? Sorry, but Metroid games are some of the best designed games of all time. I want it to stay as far away from being interactive movies with anime cliche characters, and over-the-top plots full of poorly written melodrama as possible.
I'm not saying that Other M is going to be like FF, but it certainly shouldn't be.
While I am pleased to see that they are making progress, I am a bit disappointed that they seem to be using the same Final Fantasy cliched anime art style like every Japanese game and their dog seems to do these days. I have no problem with it in games like Final Fantasy or whatever, but I preferred Metroid Prime's more... how do I say it... unique art style. That game was on of the best looking games on the Gamecube, and the art style contributed greatly to that. It also didn't have any of those convoluted plots or gratuitous cutscenes and the like, because it didn't need them. I just really don't want Metroid to take the Final Fantasy route.
I highly doubt that Metroid will follow the Final Fantasy story method in the slightest. Yamamoto is the head of this, just as he was of the original, Super, Fusion, and Zero, and I don't think he'd allow that to happen.
However, I must say I'm surprised so many people weren't expecting an anime style look. Have you seen the stills from Zero Mission and Fusion? The handheld Metroid games have always used an anime look, this just seems the natural 3D progression. Prime was the oddity, not the norm.
Well to be honest we'll be looking at a suit of armor for most of the same so the FF art-style won't matter except in cutsenes. If the enviroments look cool that's what matters.
