Super Smash Bros Brawl SD Card Problems - HELP!

Hi

OK, so I've been recording some replays on Smash Bros Brawl and I've tried to save them onto an SD card. They save on my Wii perfectly. When I go to the menu that has all my replays, however, the little yellow button underneath that says "SD card" is crossed off, despite the fact my SD card is inserted. I select the button anway and the following message comes up:

"Unable to save to the device inserted in the SD card slot".

The device inserted into the SD card slot is indeed an SD card. It's a 4GB, so does that mean it's memory space isn't big enough? (I'm not much of a technical expert ). I've tried saving a replay to the SD card directly but the same message appears.

EDIT: My Wii menu recognises the SD card. It's just Brawl that doesnt...

Why is this and does anyone know how to fix it? Do I need a bigger SD card? The SD card I'm using once had music files on it so I know things can save to it. They've been deleted off it now, but can that still affect what saves to it? Or do I need to do an update on my Wii? Please help...

I'm sorry if I've posted in the wrong section.

Make sure that the SD Card is unlocked. There's a little yellow tab on the side of the card, switch it and see if it works then.

4GB is plenty big enough.

I tried and it hasn't worked...

Snapshots don't save either...

Is it the right kind of SD card? You need the one that's used with the Wii only.

^ Any SD Card will work.

If you have a 2GB try that one.

This is what the one I'm using looks like (foreground, to the bottom right). I don't have a 2GB but I'm going shopping in a few days so I'll buy one and see what happens. Thank you all for helping, by the way...

Not sure, but I don't think anything bigger then 2GB works with brawl. It didn't work until a somewat recent update on the wii too.

I thought I read that too, but neither the Brawl Instruction Booklet, nor the Operations Manual for the Wii specify a size.

The Wii supports all SD cards, including SDHC.

I'm thinking the directory used for Brawl saves on your card is missing. Have you tried it with another card?

Brawl was released before the Wii was updated to support SDHC. 4 GB is still SD, though, not SDHC.

Like I said, try another card. Perhaps a bit smaller.

Re: Super Smash Bros Brawl SD Card Problems - HELP!

Hm. I have had the same problem and it has been most troublesome. I googled it and there was a site that I was already a member of so I thought I'd check it out.

I read in the manual and it says something about having to have data on the card for the vault data to also be saved to the SD card. I tried moving it but I can't.

Right now I'm pretty sure the problem is that SSBB does not support SDHC, like mine is.

Re: Super Smash Bros Brawl SD Card Problems - HELP!

Brawl only supports SD cards 2GB or less, if I'm not wrong, it doesn't even matter if it's SDHC or not.

I know because the same thing happened to me, so I bought a 2GB SD card and everything worked fine.

Re: Super Smash Bros Brawl SD Card Problems - HELP!

SD cards originally only supported up to 2 GB, and SDHC were required to go any higher. They did eventually make 4 GB SD cards but they can be flakey with devices or software that only support standard SD cards.

Long story short, anything over 2 GB in smash brothers will not work. Even if you have the update that supports SDHC for the Wii. I found this out when I tried to use SmashStack to hack my wii. I bought a 16 GB card to hold tons of games on it, but in the end I needed to get a smaller card to do the hack, and then use the larger card to load my games. Quite tedious.

Your same memory card will work for the wii in general and for many newer wii games. It's just a Smash Brothers limitation.
