Marketing: product placement and name dropping
I have recently noticed a few points about the marketing strategies of the 3 respective companies (Nintendo, Sony and Microcock)....
Up until the realease of the playstation, characters in movies and popular tv shows would always refer to all video games as "Nintendo" as in "johhny's in his room playing nintendo", most parents with no knowledge of games would also refer to all games as such. Anyway a short time after the release of the PS1 you might recall this changed and the word Nintendo was replaced with playstation in popular culture. Recently I have noticed that while sony still has a lot of marketing, Xbox is starting to replace the playstation (2) as the console to be seen with. One other thing I have noticed though is that nintendo does do some product placement in movies but for some reason they always just show the controller(s) and not the screen. |

You're just now noticing this? A little slow aren't you. It's all about creating fads and whats the next big hit. They hit the young people knowing they'll grow up constant constomers to thier company.
For instance I grew up on drinking Coke, and for some unknown reason I hate pepsi. Don't know why, but I do. Marketing is just a big scandle tricking people into thinking they need something. Music is also a pretty big influence on people too when it comes to marketing. No one drove around on spinners (the rims that spin.) Until the famous rappers came out sing "Rolling on 24's just spinning." I could even go as far to relate this to the goverment and go on another anti goverment rant, but I've been trying to avoid the crazy talk. Sooo... I'll just leave with America sucks.
