Games parody movie

You all probably know this movie, those things go fast. It's a parody on several popular game series. I liked the Zelda part

It's a flash movie (swf) and hasn't got a preloader so the loading may take a while. You can save it on your computer and play it with your internet browser.

Re: Games parody movie

The link doesn't want to work on my comp, but after looking at the title-is that 'The Decline of Video Gaming'? I've seen that, it's quite good-very sarcastic. By the way, the voice actors accents' are so upper class British!

Re: Games parody movie

Haha that was funny. My favorite part was when Link threw the Master Sword into the pile of Master Swords and the long ass Final Fantasy game.

Re: Games parody movie

*picks up thread, carries it off to Websites and Advertis-*

Wait, no, I'll leave this here, as it could generate some interesting discussion.

Despite the humour of this movie, it does raise some very good points about the gaming industry, and where it will end up going in the next few years. This year seems to be the Year of Sequels, actually, what with all of the new games...Metroid Prime 2, Halo 2, Splinter Cell 3, Prince of Persia 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and so many more. While hopefully Nintendo's innovative DS could do something to help the industry get out of this slump of repetition, as well as unique titles such as Geist, I fear that they're just going to get swept away by the overhyped franchises, that really, are the same thing over and over again.

Now don't get me wrong, I love sequels as much as the next person, especially when they're of good series of games, but enough is enough. I know that apparently Metal Gear Solid 3 will be the last game, but what about the spinoffs like Ac!d? Apparently Square is going to stop the Final Fantasy series with XIII, but will it really? The games practically sell on their names alone, and they have been slowly deteriorating (I believe they have been since Final Fantasy III/VI), and unless they can really come up with something miraculous in the next few years, I fear they're going to stick with the name just for the sake of keeping the series alive (as well as the obvious profit, of course).

The thing is that with major franchises, people are afraid that they will die out. Everyone loved the first Mario game, and the first Zelda game, and the first Halo game, and the first Splinter Cell game, and the first Metroid game. They've become legends in many ways, legends that are known around the world. They offer a certain familiarity to gamers, in that they know what to expect from each. Mario, for example, is known for platforming elements, a fun and upbeat mood, and the just overall great and challenging gameplay experience. Zelda is known for Link, the combination RPG/adventure gameplay elements, and, to a lesser extent, the storyline. Losing franchises like this could literally cripple the gaming industry.

So, I doubt we'll be seeing the end of sequels any time soon. They may get boring after a while, but there is enough original and interesting stuff out there for those that look for it, and without the huge franchises and recognisable characters, the gaming industry wouldn't be able to stay afloat.

Re: Games parody movie

Wow, that movie was pretty funny, I really enjoyed the Metal Gear Solid title, whatever it was. Zelda: The Lampshade with no real Significance, Final Fantasy XCMVIIMVICMIVXMICMCICVVCVCCMIXCVMCXI, it was pretty funny, but Sear pretty much hit it on the nose.

Re: Games parody movie

What Sear said..... Thesequels are getting a bit reptetive but if they have a new storyline and some noticable and great new innovation I'm all for it.

Re: Games parody movie

Well, this movie does raise the point, after a while every series will have to die, how many times will people want to have Link kill Ganon and add yet another twist to the very twisted Zelda timeline? I think the main reason that sites like ZU will not last forever as some members seem to think they will is becuase the games won't... after a while no new innovations will be possible, you'll just be playing the same formula over and over... Eventually the era of video games as a big industry will end, most of us probably won't be around or won't care when it happens, but it will end eventually.

Re: Games parody movie

What was really disappointing about this whole thing was the truth to it. As Sear said, so many sequels this year at E3; Good sequels, but no new franchises. Seriously, when was Nintendo's last original work, not built off of anything prior? Was it Pikmin? Nintendo seems to have a plan: Take franchises we've had since 1980 and build on it. How long before it gets old?
