Black Mesa Half-Life 1 Remake Still Shooting for End of '09 Release

We are doing our best to get the game completed in time to release it before the end of this year. If we don't think we'll be able to finish before then, we will let you all know as soon as possible.

Hot. Still wonder whether Valve should have just picked up the project, but I was just about to buy the original Half-Life this weekend, so knowing that a full out mod/remake is only a few months away makes me really excited.

AS WOULD ANY KIND OF HALF-LIFE ANNOUNCEMENT VALVE. HINT HINT. NO MORE LEFT 4 DEAD BULL****.

Still anticipating this mod as well. I initially intended to buy Half-Life when it was 0.99 cents sometime a while back, but I like to save bucks when I can.

****ing sweet. This mod will be so much fun.

I bet it'll be released and loved, and then picked up by Valve when it's uber popular, like they did to Team Fortress and Counter-Strike. They'll probably release it will nexter-gen L4D2-style graphics.

Best mod ever has to be Team Fortress.

Not Counter-Strike? I think that Team Fortress was influenced by it.

I never got into counter strike, the learning curve is a wall, and I didn't have the patience.

I felt the same way about TF2 but it slowly grew on me, until I finally got decent and started enjoying it. I tend to prefer multiplayer games with a team emphasis anyway. Also in TF2, it's not just being a hotshot with the mouse control, but it's also using class tactics against each other.

You could make a strong case for either game though.

It looks amazing! Can't wait for this. I've been agitated over this Left 4 Dead stuff. I don't want that. I want more Half Life stuff.

It annoys me, though, that they haven't updated the animations, only the textures and character models.

That's one of the most difficult things to do isn't it?

And yeah, getting sort of annoyed with the whole L4D2 thing aswell, not sure whether I'll buy it, i made the decision to get MW2 instead of it, all I really want is some episode 3 info, these episodes were supposed to smaller(which they got right), more streamlined(which they got right), released in shorter time periods(major fail).

It's a good job I really love Valve.

I can't wait for this to come out. I just hope Valve doesn't squash it. That's what I've been worried about since I first saw it on moddb four years ago or so.

Valve fully encourage mods. They'd never do that. It's how they came up with TF2/Portal/L4D.

This mod has Valve's blessing. Last I heard they just want a copy prior to release so THEY can play it first.

No, it was initially going to be a Counter-Strike mod made by their design team.
