What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

My favorite generation of the Pokémon handhelds was the Gold/Silver/Crystal. I remember playing Gold, and I thought that was the best Pokémon game ever. My brother and I used to trade Pokémon with our friend Johnathan from his Silver. And I just remember it being a very good game.
So, what are your favorite Pokémon handhelds?

Re: What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. They have most of my favorite Pokemon and I found them more fun than any of the other games I've played. It also has my favorite Pokemon music track, which is Team Galactic Battle. Totally epic. <3

Re: What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

GSC. They were the only generation to truly innovate the franchise, and they were such a huge leap from Gen I it is not even funny. The Pokemon also didn't suck like they did later, and includes several of my favourites, such as Typhlosion and Scizor. It is also tied with Gen I for the most memorable music in the series.

They were the only installments that felt like true sequels to the previous games. They had a balance between how much old/new Pokemon got the spotlight (which I can't say for later games), and the ability to return to Kanto, the region of the previous game. All of this culminates in the epic conclusion in which you fight Red, the hero of the previous games, at the top of Mt. Silver in the greatest showdown in the series.

Truly the epitome of the franchise.

1st Generation. I had Red and my cousin Blue, and we used to trade and battle. Squirtle was my fave, and I always started with him. I guess thats my main reason lol :-D

I know it's not handheld, but PokéMon Snap was great too!

GSC. Do you see any other generation that allows you to go to two different regions? And I thought the villians of this generation were way better than the other groups they have in later generations. Team Rocket was just a bad-ass group, and had a little bit better of a fashion sense.

Gen I and Gen II had the best Pokémon, but I've played Gen II so many times I like Gen I better.

Re: What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

I voted GSC, but I have more fond memories of the originals. GSC were definitely better games, but I still think RBY are my favorite.

After the second generation, the Pokemon just look too ridiculous, with a few exceptions. I wish they'd just ditch the newer Pokemon and go back to only having the original 151/251.

Pokemon lost its charm for me after the G/S/C generation of Pokemon games.

Sadly, I've lost my Gold cartridge...

Re: What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

Unfortunately, I stopped playing Poke'mon somewhere around the age of 10. The only versions I had then were, Red and Yellow. Now I have only Platinum.
So I have no choice, but to choose D/P/P...

I know how you feel.

I seem to be the only one who truly loves the fourth gen games more than the others and I've played everything from Crystal version and later sans HG/SS since they're not out yet.

Most people are going to vote for Gold and Silver, including me, so the poll is pointless.

Re: What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

Hasn't this been done about a trillion times in the actual Pokemon threads? Why does this thread even exist on its own?

But yeah, GSC for all the reasons previously stated.

Re: What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

I really couldn't choose a favorite. I have owned one from each generation and I have enjoyed all of them equally..

GSC gets my vote though for nostalgia.

The newest is always the best.

Anyone who says anything else is delusional and nostalgic.

I believe the title of the thread is "what is your favorite generation?".
GSC were objectively the most influential games in the series.

Also, the newest is not always the best, and anyone who thinks so is delusional.

Re: What's Your Favorite Generation of Pokémon Handheld Games?

Definitely Gold/Silver/Crystal. I loved how you got the first 151 Pokémon mixed in with these new creative ones. And, you could still visit the land from Blue/Red/Yellow. I liked those games, I just think Silver/Gold/Crystal really expanded on them very well. It was definitely an awesome step forward that really impacted me as a gamer back then.

The generations after that are okay to me, though they don't feel the same as the first 251 Pokémon to me. I don't think Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald and Diamond/Pearl/Platinum have really done anything new that I really care about, except online play that is. Other than that, they didn't really strike me as something new. The new Pokémon in those games just don't click with me, and I frankly think they're poorly designed. You have some nice ones in there like Lucario, but I like few of them.

Maybe nostalgia is clouding my judgment, but that's how I feel. The later generations have mostly felt like something not very original, and Nintendo does tend to rehash the same old concepts a little too much. That doesn't have to be a bad thing, though with the later generations, I definitely think it is.
