Sigh.
A few days ago I was ***** bored. So I started to play a ROM of Pokemon Sapphire (Gasp!) and I need reasurrance.
Am I Childish for enjoying a Pokemon game?
(Considering I'm 15 years of age)

Nah, you were bored, at least you had something to do.
I would only think you were childish if you had better things to do and you played poke'mon instead.

I'm twenty-four and I watch cartoons. Mostly stuff like "Aqua Teen Hunger Force," but still, some would say it's 'childish'.

Really, the only childish thing is if someone tries to tell you what you enjoy is 'childish.' Even though I think Pokemon is pretty lame, I don't think its players are. I suspect (hope?) that most people are the same.

Personally, I would only play a game of Pokemon if I was insanely uber-bored. So, if you were THAT bored, I don't blame you... but unless it was that, touching any pokemon game IMO burns as much as touching acid. That game is toxic... it was fun when I was 10 years old... in fact, sometimes I do get so bored that I consider actually loking at the game for a few seconds, but I haven't gone near a Pokemon game in years. The people in my school started to make fun of me for playing it once during fifth grade...

But, me and my friend made a deal that we would only go near and/or play a Pokemon game if were were as ***** bored as you must have been. So, no, you weren't immature, just really, really bored.

Nothing wrong with playing Pokemon. They're great games (although repetative) and I play them myself. They're more fun than most games, and isn't that what counts in the end? I'd rather play a "kiddy" game that was tons of fun rather than a "mature" game that bores me in five minutes.

Just stay away from the television show and you'll be fine.

I'm with sear, Pokemon is a great RPG, but it has become un-cool to play it, so it's obviously a bad game... >< Had Nintendo gone a little easier on marketing, no cards, no TV show, it would still probably be considerd a great game, but becuase those were aimed at little kids older ones started thinking it wasn't any good. I myself haven't played Pokemon in a while, but then again I have beaten all of the Pokemon games I own at least 3 times, so that may have something to do with it. To answer your question: no, I don't think your childish.

Actually, they are pretty good games. Not that I've bought one recently, I haven't been playing alot of gameboy stuff, period, lately.

I remember reading some of the strategy that they employed in one on one battles with your friends, and it impressed me. The way I had always used to stack like moves (i.e. ember, flamethrower and fire blast; now I cringe when I see that) on a single pkmn, or totally forsake some of the more subtle moves.

That being said, the cpu is rather dumb, so you don't need strategy against it. But, humans are smart and you can get a good battle out of them (which is why I am baffled as to why Nintendo hasn't made a MMORPG out of this game. ITs turn-based, so dial-up will be fine with it, and the best competition you get is from humans, not the cpu.)

So, conclusion? Games, can be good. Show, bad.

No, not at all... Perhaps if you got the Pokemon craze and went around with posters, cards, watching the show, etc. But no, I still enjoy Pokemon games, I just don't like it on TV or the trading cards.

I used to like the showsand games but the only good one that has come out for a while is Collosseum. I think that the story line is just getting old it was fine but after Gold, Silver and Crystal it all started to get old.

Anyway, whether it's childish or not to me it means *****. To me it's just like any other game of it's genre.

If you already know that, then why are you asking here?

Only a fool turns down the chance to play a quality game because of some preconceived notion that it is childish.

But who cares dude. Those games are fun, and if you're bored you need something to do. I still like Pokemon, but I don't care if I seem childish. It's better to feel young than to feel old.

I've loved Pokémon for years, although not now as much as I did. I used to buy plushies and take em to the park, no really!
I've got a massive collection of cards and all the movies (on vid, mind, I can't be arsed to upgrade THOSE to dvd )

I've always been attracted to things that make me different. I was the only person in Primary school (elementary?) that liked Sonic, for example (waits for GC's shocked reaction ).
At one time when I was 16, I was desperate to fit in, but now I'll dye my hair pink, openly like Hamtaro, play Pokémon and do what the hell I want, screw 'em.

The only thing that i hate about Pokemon is the show, the games are good but they need to get more upgraded than what they are, for example, they could ad the show's pokemon voices (or sounds) instead of keeping the stupi ones that they make in the GBA games.

Back in the thread, i dont think that is childish, i just think that its a bit stupid at some moments in the game, and totally useless like the show.

I'm 17 and I not only still play all the games, I also watch the show.

It's not childish, I'm 17 and while I don't own any of the games (We sold Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Silver with the rest of our Nintendo 64 and Game Boy stuff to get Gamecube) and I still watch the television show when I'm home. The television show has become a bit stale, I'll admit, but its better than half the other cartoons. I'll still play Pokemon, I'll definitely hire out and consider purchasing Pokemon Colloseum when it comes out in Australia. That is, if our stupid local Blockbuster would get any new Gamecube games (their newest game is Hulk which came out a year ago). I just wish Nintendo would pull their finger out and make a fully 3D Pokemon RPG.
