Re: good video game endings
ToS: Dawn of the New World. It had a lot of stuff wich was just never answered throughout the game, and a lot of built up emotion. It all came together in the ending and really finished with a strong hit. I have to say the game started off a little weak, especially compared to it'd predacessor, but the ending made it worth it.

Re: good video game endings
One video game ending I quite enjoy, as it's something rather different compared to many other game endings, is the ending to Shadow of the Colossus. If you haven't played and beaten the game and don't want anything spoiled, don't read any further.
Throughout the course of the game, you're killing these giant titan-like monsters in order to wish a girl you love back to life. In the end, after you kill the final one, she's just about to be brought back when a bunch of soldiers bust in to stop you. The demon who's tricking you to kill the colossi (in order to be set free) possesses you. For a few minutes at the end, you have control over this beast and can try to fight off the soldiers, but they just run away in fear. The head of the soldiers, possibly a king I dunno, takes the sword you used to kill the colossi then disposes of it, creating a vortex that sucks the demon out of you, returning you to normal, but it continues to suck you toward it. You have control of your character at this point as he's desperately trying to crawl back toward his deceased loved one. No matter what you do, however, you're still pulled into the vortex. In the end, the girl is brought back to life. She hears the cry of a baby and goes out to find it, and it turns out it is you. The power of the demon being sucked from your body had reduced you to an infant. You get your wish, the girl is brought back, but the price the main character had to pay was that he could never be with her the way he wanted to. It's twisted, a little sad, but a perfect ending for the game.

Re: good video game endings
^That's one interpretation of it. Not to say you're wrong, just that there alot of people debating the sense of ambiguity with what was given at the very end. I won't argue that there I felt alot of emotion in it.
It WOULD have been a tragic ending altogether if Agro actually DID die, but I got a sense of relief in realizing he was still alive albeit injured, and I may be interpreting it beyond necessity, but I see a sense of symbolism to Agro's return as well. At least with the connection between Agro and Wander Anyway, for one of my picks, I would have to say Okami was one of them. It's a hard one to put into words, but I may sooner or later edit this post to truly explain how I felt, because the fact of the matter is that using epic for everything can get a little redundant. It wasn't so much the ending itself as it was the sheer sense of emotion in the final battle pretty much brought on by the scene the preceded it. I always though the music helped to play a big part in the scens as well. God of War: Chains of Olympus' ending I kind of liked too. The whole game has my favorite story in the series thus far, mainly because of how they handled Kratos' character. We see at least a bit more into him that we might not have gotten from GoWII (though let's face it, GoWII's story was mainly to set up for what to expect in GoWIII), and we don't waste anymore time with seeing how the flashbacks brought him to where he was, and it continues to do really well at utilizing the fact that in God of War, there really is no good or evil, just a very human sense of perspective, which helps to at least capture the essence of Greek Mythology, because despite the liberties they take with the actual facts, they manage to do good at representing what Greek Mythology is usually about, and they don't exagerrate on things like gore quite as much as you might think. As for ToS, I don't give a damn how good th ending in the sequel was, the game was sullied from the first one by too much, largely revolving around the over excessivness of the game's two terrible new lead characters. |

Good Endings?? Hmmm.... Xenogears had a good one. It was ambiguous though. Valkyrie Profile. The real ending is hard to get but work it. The actual ending of the game begins while you are still playing it and its amazing: You find out just who Lenneth is and why. She begins to connect the dots and realize she still had human emotions and mourns over the loss of Lucian. (who was killed by Loki as a scapegoat) As such, her sister, Hrist comes down and owns her face and tries to seal her away. Arngrim and some of the others get together and battle Hrist! (Brahms for the win!!) Once Hrist is dealt with, Arngrim, Mystina, and Lezard team up to bring Lenneth back. They succeed of course and Lenneth returns to Asgard. Its in shambles and Ragnarok has begun. Lenneth witnesses the death of Odin and deals some pretty awesome lines to Freya and heads off to find Loki. Once there, Loki destroys Midgard. However Lenneth realizes she possesses the power of creation (due to her new body) and with the power of the Einherjar, pretty much puts everything back and destroys Loki. The very end is her reuniting with Lucian. I thought that was cool. Really cool. Also the ending of Earthbound always made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Final Fantasy X. And, of course Final Fantasy X-2 finishing it with the Perfect ending.
It was perfect, even without Final Fantasy X-2, but together it was the ultimate ending. I must admit, I was close to tears because of Final Fantasy X's ending.

I stopped reading the thread.
Anyway, I could probably list quite a few, but... Mother freaking 3. YOU CAUSE THE APOCALYPSE. And it was pretty touching and saddening for obvious reasons. That entire final battle.... that was cruel.

Earthbounds ending was awesome. Everyone in your team leaves you one by one, and you'll get the option to explore the whole world without enemies.

Does that really need spoiling? We're talking about "good video game endings" here, and nothing you said was specific to TWEWY at all. :/

Re: good video game endings
FE9 had my favorite game ending of all time. It showed Ike and Elincia having a short conversation about Elincia becoming queen of Crimea, and then they walk out onto the castle balcony holding hands. I thought they were going to kiss, I swear, but they didn't. Still, because of this ending, I love the IkexElincia pairing. x3.

Close-minded?
Anyways, I really enjoyed Final Fantasy VI's ending. I really liked how it gave credit to every character you had, and the character theme medley was awesome. I also like how the world was finally coming back to life and how it resolved everything at the end, so it didn't need a sequel. |

Re: good video game endings
Kingdom Hearts 2 had a great ending in my opinion. When Sora and Riku land in the ocean and see Kiari it's kind of heart-warming. Especially when Goofy, Donald, and King Mickey jump on Sora and Riku. And when Sora says, "We-we're back!" and Kiari says "You're home." that was a really good scene.

Re: good video game endings
I'd say Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia had a good ending. And no, I'm not talking about the bad ending.
Sure, it seems like any other Castlevania, right? Except you have to use the Glyph Combination that you're never supposed to use in the entire game. Dracula dies, and so does Shanoa. Though Albus' spirit, embedded into the last piece of Dominus, sacrifices his soul in order for Shanoa to live. Castlevania crumbles to dust, Shanoa escapes, and she is never seen again throughout the entire series. Kinda sad that she lost everything she held dear to her, Albus, Barlowe, and her emotions. But that's what made it so great, since she's able to pick up her life after the game ends. It's still kinda thought provoking where she ends up, though.
