Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

Castlevania fans need not worry, Iga is still with the franchise and is at the helm for this new Castlevania for Wiiware. It is a remake of Castlevania: The Adventure, which was the first game in the series on the original GameBoy.

I am pretty happy myself that Konami is still supporting Castlevania on the Wii. Now if only we can get a Simon's Quest or Dracula's Curse Rebirth.

Details:
-The protagonist is Christopher Belmont, an often forgotten hero from the games of old.
-The game is completely rebuilt from the groundup, hence the name rebirth
- new arrangements of classic songs
- releases in Japan on Oct. 27th for 1,000 Nintendo Points
Small article on details of Iga's involvement in the game.

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

I think I heard originally that it was going to be released on all networks, but recently I've only seen WiiWare being mentioned.

I have an X360 as well, but either way I'll just get it on WiiWare. Did that with another classic-style game (Mega Man 9) and was quite content with that.

Castlevania rocks my world, so I can't wait for this. I've been wanting a "classic" styled CV game for awhile now, after playing the numerous Metroidvanias. Recently I've been getting ready by playing other classic CV games, like CVIII and SCVIV, all which are fantastic.

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

I've found a few more screenshots and it looks like Christopher's trademark Flame Whip will make a return. Japan only has 3 days till is out on their Shop Channel, makes me wonder why Konami hasn't shown any trailers or gameplay videos.

EDIT: Here's a link to the website with the new screenshots, since the website doesn't allow me to post the pics directly here. http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/screenshots/21384

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

The original had a badass theme for the first stage (as is tradition with Castlevania).

But it's called "Castlevania: The Adventure"?
I always read it as "The Castlevania Adventure".

Anyway, this game sucked huge nuts, so it's good that it's getting a revamping (no pun intended).

If only Iga hadn't retconned Legends. I would have liked a remake of that game, seeing as it was the first Castlevania game to star a female protagonist, Sonia Belmont.

Eww no. The story of that game messes up the timeline. Id rather it was discarded all together.

I didn't care if it messes with the timeline. The timeline of Castlevania is the same incident over and over again with very few exceptions: Someone kills Dracula. The end. I don't care if Alucard somehow becomes the father of future Belmonts, in fact, it's almost ironic.

Then alter the storyline...that's kind of a good point that remakes potentially have. Sonia is a very cool character. If any game needs a remake though, it's that awful 0/10 Order of Shadows game for the cellphones.

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

New DLable Wiiware Castlevania = **** YEAH!!!

I am probably one of the biggest Castlevania fanboys you will ever meet in your lives, having played every single game in existence. Yes, I've even played the horrible, horrible Legends.

Anyways, I'm glad they're showing Christopher Belmont some love by revamping his first game. Good to see.

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

Wiiware has been f'n awesome the last few months. This is just icing on the cake.

For those interested, there will be exclusives reveals for it in next Nintendo Week video on the Nintendo Channel. Don't know how much they're going to show off, but I imagine some vids of sort.

I'm looking forward to this, just because I think it'll be a nice change from the Metroidvania's we've been getting for several years. No worrying about a story, leveling up or exploration; just straight platforming and action.

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

I think it's a smart move to bring these 2D games over to WiiWare and other similar services. They're not too expensive to make, but the standards for those distribution platforms are much lower when it comes to production values as well. The DS sort of became the official home for 2D, SNES-style games a few years ago, and I think WiiWare and Xbox LIVE Arcade have started to move into that space as well. While I couldn't justify paying $40-50 for a new 2D Castlevania, I could definitely justify $10.

Really? Then I'll keep a watch on the Nintendo Channel. I can't wait for the official artwork to be released, I hope they make Christopher look like a badass.

EDIT: We've got some gameplay footage, not much though. From the looks of things the game plays pretty smooth and the signature sub-weapons like the Dagger and the Cross are back.

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

Yeah, I expected more than a 20 second vid and that tool telling us what we've all known for weeks, but at least it looks good. I saw a couple brand new enemies in there, which is great because the original had like, 10 in all.

Re: Konami shows off Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware

Now that I think about it a little bit, I should probably ask this question: Is Castlevania: Rebirth for Wiiware, DSiware, or both?

A DSiWare version would be cool, but as far as we've heard, the game is only for WiiWare.
