Another Wii System Update

Another one of those system updates is available for installation in North America! Honestly... that's it, though. I have no idea about the upgrade's purpose, and I imagine that it's mostly related to behind-the-scenes stuff, but I thought I would let all of you know. Perhaps it has to do with more homebrew prevention (though I'm completely ignorant when it comes to past updates and homebrew in the past).

Do we need a thread each time there's a Wii update that does nothing but squash homebrew or does nothing at all?

I have read that this is supposed to enable the Ambassador program in Europe, but since there's no such thing for North America yet, it doesn't do anything here.

I guess not, but not everyone on ZU lives in North America, and if something does come of the update, this would be the place to talk about it. Like the Ambassador program in Europe! Why is it that the rest of the world doesn't have such a program? I sure would like some free Nintendo points for getting my friends/family into video games!

Your first post though implied that you had no idea what the update did, and it's not very often that it enables things in one region and not another.
In fact, I've never heard of such a thing.

I didn't when I posted it, but according my source site's update, "apparently the latest update is for the Ambassador program (earn free VC titles by helping others connect online) in Europe, but again, there are no noticeable changes for North American Wii systems at this point."

Which is... a little confusing, since the update was implied to be North America-only. Regardless, it looks like our European friends are going to be able to rack up Nintendo points through this ambassador program, in which one earns points as an incentive for getting friends' systems to connect online. The point of the North American update, which doesn't seem to have changed anything, I am still unsure of.

I don't know about anyone else but I don't update my wii until the update has been out for a while anymore. Ever since the 4.0 update trashed my firmware (or whatever) for reading discs (at least Nintendo paid for it even though my warranty was up) I don't trust them enough to update it right away. And it seems like all the new ones just attack hackers anyway.

Just got the update mail. Currently updating. Its pretty cool you'll get free access to nes/snes and n64 games, but getting 20 people hooked on the wii internet seems impossible.

I haven't updated my Wii in years. I don't see any particular reason to.

Now, if Nintendo wasn't so butthurt about hacks and siht, I would hack my Wii to play M.U.G.E.N.

Oh, by the by, if the updates are for squashing Homebrew, well they're a waste.

Well, I got the update to give me that free NES game for getting the Internet Channel before it was free.
Unfortunately, most are terrible. I settled for Kid Icarus.
