The World Ends with You

Hello there everybody. I searched around and didn't see any so I decided to make a discussion thread about what is quite possibly my favorite game(that isn't in the Zelda series) of all time.

Some general guidlines about the thread:

Anything related to the first plathrough is fair game

I'd like to avoid too much discussion about some of the things that are unlocked after the game in case there are those who haven't beaten it yet

Try to refrain from talking about sequels and such as we'll just end up speculating and i'd like to keep this thread about what we know. Although talking about what new features and elements to gameplay you'd like to see implemented in any future installments is fine.

Well. I've mostly finished the game. There are still a few enemies on some difficulty levels I still need to beat (which isn't necessary in any way, but still. I want to do it), as well as getting all the items and pins, but otherwise I've beaten the game. Getting extra Scarletite is really annoying though.

Sabbo: I'm currently trying to collect all the reports. Man the boss battle on the second day of week three is a pain!

Then grind up some. I've almost beat the game 100%. I still need a few more items and more pins. But really, who seriously is going to master all 300-some pins?

I intend to. I'll be using a guide once I get stuck though. :/

Beat the game to completion, including the hidden reports and Another Day. It was one of my favourite games whilst I was playing it and I didn't put it down for the two or so weeks it took me to finish. One of my favourite RPGs, in both gameplay and story. The gameplay was original, a far cry from the usual turn based systems from other JRPGs. The story, as well as being gripping and in parts funny, with likeable characters, also had quite a profound message to do with individuality and breaking out from your own boarders. Aesthetically it was also quite beautiful, in it's own way, with a very original art and music style that fitted the game world well.

So that's my glowing review and my recommendation to buy this game if you get the chance.

I've played the game, and for a while I had a raging obsession with mastering all the pins. I got to like 201 or something before it got boring. And repetitive. But still, a very well-made game!

Loved this game! Although after you collect the secret reports it gets kinda dull. Still it was a good game.

Great game, but the thing I like best about it is the fact that it was the first really awesome original IP Square had done since before the merger. Shame they don't do this kind of thing more often.

Do you think there should be a sequel though? or should this just be a one time hit? IMO they should do a sequel but come up with some new characters. Maybe have it take place in one of the other "grounds" that the composer mentioned.

Oni: Though I respect developers who know when to leave a series where it is and not make sequels for the sake of milking the cash cow, in this particular instance I think I would like to see a sequel. As you said, making it in the same world but otherwise unconnected (such as showing us a game in one of the other grounds) would be a cool idea. I just don't want to see the franchise abused by Square.

Sam: sounds like an interesting idea. Although i was under the impression that the composer invented the game himself and therefore the other grounds wouldn't have The Game(or at least not the exact same kind as Shibuya's).

While we're on this subject what do you think he meant by grounds? Other parts of Japan or does the UG extend across the entire planet?

Coming up with a new setting and some new characters is nice but I wouldn't be completly against seeing Neku(or if it's in the UG the entire time Hanekoma and Joshua) again. Maybe just a reference that fans of the first game would interpret as someone talking about them.

I bought it in the used rack at Gamestop a few weeks back, and I couldn't put it down for probably a week or so. It was so addicting, and I loved the story to it. I was probably the most obsessed with getting all of the music records and collecting pins.

But I haven't beaten the final boss yet. ._. It's hard when you don't have your partner.

Have you gotten to the final boss? What Chari said most definitely applies regarding the boss at the very end of the third week.

Hey, I could use some help...

I'm at the second time you fight those two reapers with Beat (the chick and the dude with the sucker), where they're possessed, and I've been stuck there for a while. Any tips?

What pins have you been using? Names or detailed-ish descriptions of what they look like are fine.

Uh, my bro's on the DS right now, but the people I'm talking about are the reapers, one has big orange hair and is always like relaxed and has a sucker, the other one is the pinked haired one who always gets pissed.

I know who you're talking about - the description was good enough - but I can't help unless I know how you can improve, and adjusting pins is the easiest way to do that.

Oh, and clothing. Make sure to have decent stuff to wear.
