Characters you like that everyone else hates

This was spurred by the bringing up of Waluigi in that NSMBWii thread.

So mine's easy, Waluigi!


"Nyeh, everybody cheatin' but me!"

Most people seem to hate him (along with Daisy) in the Mario universe. He was created in Mario Tennis on N64 as a doubles partner for Wario (Luigi needed an evil foil). Most people seem to decry his name, his stereotypical Snidely Whiplash appearance, and his lack of starring (or major) roles with which to flesh out his character (he has yet to be in any non-spinoff Mario game).

Now for copy and paste!

Waluigi actually seems to be much more of a cheater than Wario. Wario just brute-forces everything. This is probably just pure fan-nonsense, but Waluigi strikes me as the kind of character that would be more cunning and deceiving to try to win through cheating. Wario's just an idiot (yet apparently not since he created his own game development company).

You know, a lot of people ***** about his name. Now, I'm not usually one to say "it's better in Japan", but Waluigi's name in Japan was actually a perfect fit.
To my understanding, it went something like
Luigi = Ruiji
Wa = "bad"
Warui = "someone who is bad"
Waruiji = warui + ruiji = "bad luigi"

In English it's just awkward.

I also have to say that he just plain makes me laugh. Have you seen those intro videos for games like the GameCube Mario sports games (particularly Power Tennis and Golf, the Camelot games)? He and Wario make a hilarious pair. His voice cracks me up too, as does his apparent attitude (which at this point is only revealed through said intro videos and his body movement).
He also kinda looks like the Snidely Whiplash/Dick Dastardly type of villain, which walks a fine line between stupidly cliche and humorous, but I find it humorous.

I dunno, I just like him. The fact that he's so hated makes it even better.

Everyone hates? Well, that will be a bit difficult, seeing as every character is liked by someone. Hehe, I get what you mean. So, lemme think.

I dunno man, most people I talk to think that he's lame compared to Phoenix, but I disagree. Apollo is awesome. :<

I like Peach. I really, really like Peach. A lot of people hate her. Some hate her because she's all cutesy and happy, some hate her because she wears pink, some hate her because she's another blonde, some hate her because she's always being captured. I happen to adore the pink-wearing, happy-frou-frou, cake-baking, blonde damsel in distress. I understand that there is some need for strong female heroes like Samus, but that doesn't mean that they all have to be like that. I adore Princess Peach.

I'd be inclined to agree with most people you talk to then. He's okay in his own right, but downright sucks compared to the old Phoenix. His own game wasn't even about him, it was about Phoenix and Trucy. He almost seemed coincidental.

Peach is just boring in pretty much everything except the Paper Mario games, where she has actual personality. She's still a pink cake-baking priss there too, but at least she's more entertaining.

Ugh, people exaggerate Navi way too damn much.
But I wouldn't go so far as to say I particularly like her.

Daisy. She gets a bad rap for being "two dimensional" but Nintendo never really gave her any room to grow as a character. I think she could be fun! A kind of opposite of Peach whos always so girly and pink. Daisy seems she would have more a take-charge sort of attitude.


I know what youre thinking. "Everyone loves Sephiroth!" Not true. Hes getting a really bad rap lately for being "overrated." Yeah the FF7 fanboys did some damage to him in last 10 years, but to be honest, HE was the very reason i kept playing FF7. He did the very thing i wanted to do since the beginning of the game! Kill that infernal twat, Aerith!!!! After that, How could i not love the guy? It does help hes nice to look at.


Isaac from Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.
At first, i wasnt sure what to make of this dude, but after awhile, his insane villainy won me over. People are put off by his "fruity" look, but i think the design compliments his weirdness.

Another character who catches hell, Colette Brunel. I think shes cute and charming. Shes got some funny parts and i tend to use her alot in battle (as a main). She grew on me. Out of the ToS cast, its Sheena i really hate. Poor Colette does suffer from RPG Cliche Syndrome but i like her.

Ill post more when i think of them.

As someone that used to hate Sephiroth due to the hype, I have to agree with you. He's still not up to snuff with Golbez and Kefka in my eyes, but he's still a pretty good villain.

I'm surprised Tingle hasn't been mentioned yet. I love the little oddball and his catchphrase. "Tingle Tingle, Kooloo-limpah!"

Tingle is another very good example. I don't particularly like the guy, but he gets way more hate than he deserves.

I like Daisy a lot too. Right now, she's the only character I know that I like while everyone else seems to hate.

Also, I'm uncannily a lot like her. I mean A LOT. I'm tomboyish, love flowers, am full of energy, and I have a loud, potentially annoying voice.

This and the rest of the Tales of Symphonia cast I like all of them no matter what people say.

Okay really I'm just ****ing around, but Tales of Symphonia is a terrible game and I have no idea why so many people like it.

He gets a pretty bad rep, as with a good number of the Symphonia cast, but I still liked him, dispite his "wussy-ness" It thought it made him pretty funny.

Agreed. I usually dont pay that much attention to him.


This chick is one of the most hated Castlevania characters aside from Sonja Belmont. I dont hate Charlotte. In fact, In Portrait of Ruin, she proved more useful than Jonathan. (whos a....aadfhjdsgf i hate that guy...) Shes annoying at times but not really a bad character, in terms of game mechanics.


Nino from Fire Emblem (or FE7) gets alot of hate. Actually its either you hate her or you love her. Shes the Est archetype of FE7. She joins late in the game but has some of the most amazing growths in the entire game. Nino has grown on me alot. I use her most of the time now. Shes a good character if you give her a chance, but since she joins so late at a low level, few people do.


Oh Fiona...Poor Fiona. Another FE character that gets pissed on constantly. Like Nino, she joins your team at a less than desirable level. People complain that you just dont get enough time to level her, or shes way too much effort than she's worth, etc. Nonsense, i say to them! She is worth it because the Dawn Brigade sucks balls and you need a paladin. If trained, she can hold on her own on the ever-annoying Part 3 DB levels.

Jonathan was a pansy! I was always Charlotte as much as possible!
Her "personality" was cliche and stupid (or not even really all that important), but I like her just on her gameplay merits!
How can she be that hated (especially any more than Jonathan)?

Dude. Nothing can convince me that that guy is worth anything. Sorry. Hes awful. Hes a whiny little wimp and he annoys me greatly. Granted, hes not as bad as Marta whom id love to strangle brutally. hes an awful, awful character. Its a shame he had to be the main character to a really bad sequel to a game i really liked.

RAIDEN

Lulz, as if it isn't obvious enough. Back in MGS2, most of the Metal Gear Solid fanboys didn't take too kindly to this effeminate sword-wielding emo kid going around and replacing Snake. With him turning all into a cyborg ninja and whatnot in MGS4, though, his fanbase has grown.

And too bad for those who still hate him, because next game will feature none other than...yep, you guessed it, Raiden, as the main protagonist.

Ok no. Just no. The only thing I liked about him was the incredible contrast between him and ultra-violent Ratatosk.

Worst tales protagonist ever.
