Sprites are a single texture; So technically this game doesn't use sprites.

I'm also confused why generic toads were used instead of some Mario characters with personality. Why no love for Wario?

Probably because Wario's an ass, and would therefore only try to save Peach if she was going to bake a cake at the end.

One toad should have stayed, but two? No, I want something else. Wario would be good. Or maybe Peach, and have them battling Bowser for a different reason.

Didn't you hear me say before that I wasn't sure why both Toads stayed?
Wario really is the only sensical character they could put there, since all the others are more minor and they can't put Yoshi. Well they could, but it'd be strange.

Couldn't they write around his ass-ness?

No Waluigi though. He deserves to a special place in hell.

Nah, some people should be kept in-character.

Wario would have been quite the appropriate character to throw in there though, since it focuses a lot on competition as well as cooperation. Wario with his greedy personality is perfect for competitive play where you're supposed to get the most points (especially since coins are involved).

If only it had been Mario, Luigi, Toad and Peach.

Exactly.

Toad is a badass, though, especially if you played Super Mario Bros. 2 (US version). I guess Nintendo thought the game needed two Toads to be really badass.

Put more effort in? For the kind of game that it is (a 2D platformer), what more could you expect? E3 may have left a bit to be desired, since back then we could barely tell if the game was a DS port or not, but since then, if you've kept up with various media and impressions, it's obvious that the package has really come together.

The whole point of NSMBWii is to be a cleanly-presented and fun game that anyone can play and enjoy. Just like the original NSMB for DS, this game is trying to emulate the original Super Mario Brothers, only this time instead of making multiple players take turns, it's giving them the ability to play simultaneously.

And, all this while it can still be played as a fully-featured single-player 2D Mario experience where gameplay takes center stage.

Remember, this is only the first of two Wii Mario platformers that are going to come out within a year of each other. You just have to note that the purpose of NSMBWii is not the same as Super Mario Galaxy 2's. Both will be worthwhile for similar and different reasons, obviously.

What? How? His existence is a product of logical ineptitude; He must exist to fill the role of sidekick to the doppelganger, without actually having anything resembling a character of his own. Luigi is clumsy and lacks self confidence, Wario is a selfish brute, what's Waluigi? I guess he laughs a lot or something?

Waluigi's has appeared in 3 Mario Kart titles, marking 3 games that include Waluigi which weren't cynical cash-ins of the Mario brand. He's a rubbish character and I hate hate hate him.

Wario would be strange, he's much slower, and a worse jumper then the rest, Toad and luigi are more understandable. Still, I rather had something else then 2 toads.

I sincerely hope that if they bring back the airships then they bring back the music too. If not then I'll be so damn disappointed.

And the visuals really are appealing.

What about Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Wario? What's wrong with that?

Also, do each of the characters play differently, like in SM64DS?

No. He's an incredibly thin character. He shouldn't even exist, it's just that he needed to exist to fill in the blank. Maybe Waluigi should get some play in the Wario series to help him build up a character, but right now he's far to two dimensional, and he's not ready for a prime-time Mario platformer. (No, **** you. I know the game is in 2D. That has NOTHING to do with his character being 2D. I know you're thinking it. Don't even ****ing type that.)

Exactly, especially looking at level design. While the use of polygons and the music still bothers me, the other assets of this game have made them a non-issue. Also, I wish they would be more creative with the world map and exits.

Its funny. PS360 games are getting rid of local in favor of online, while the Wii is doing the opposite.
