Wii update

I just rented Beatles Rock Band, and when I put it in my Wii, it says I need to update in order to play the game. Is this the same update that people keep saying not to get? Will updating affect me if I don't have any homebrew on my wii?

Is it just asking you to update, or is it saying you need to?

The 4.2 update deletes all Homebrew (except the newer ones released afterwards). There have been reports of people bricking their Wii from updating. If it bricks and you have no homebrew, then Nintendo will repair it for free.
