Actually all of what I said matters. These days it takes more than a solid gameplay experience to make a game epic. We've all played solid games that don't have the style, flair, or character that Brutal Legend has in spades. (almost made an ace of spades motörhead joke here lol.)
But since you insist, Brutal Legend plays like a mixture of genres. The side missions range from hunting down creatures in the world, to car racing, to delivery missions in the deuce.
The main chunk of the game, though, are RTS-style battles. A stage is set up, and there are geysers through out the field that have fans in them. You run up to the geysers(or fly, later on) and play a solo that drops a merchandise booth on the geyser, which generates fans(which is the game's resource.) You use the fans as a currency to purchase units and upgrades for your stage(the more you upgrade the stage, the more different types of units you can build.)
Instead of an absent overseer of the battle, Eddie is actually on the field and you have complete control over him. You fight alongside the army you're controlling with the hack n slash mechanics shown in the demo. Additionally, you can "double team" with any unit to preform a special attack.
It's really the most well done console rts sytem I've seen since Pikmin.
