Cool Great game idea

Ryan's great game idea.

After looking at the video of the new Zelda game, I just thought up an awesome idea of a game. You see all those awesome fight scenes on the horse and what not, and then, you see all these monster come over the horizon at sunset. Well, my idea is, it's going to be a zelda esc game, with dungeons items, etc. But, with a little rts mixed in. After you beat so many dungeon, the evil forces try to assault your castle...like in OoT you're base could be hyrule castle/market and the battle field is the middle area of teh map with the lon lon ranch. At teh start of the battle, you decide your troops behavior, they're formation and their position. Then when the battle starts, you lose control of them from there on. Now you go onto the battle field yourself, with your units doing what you told them to do. Now, you're in the battle. it contorl like everything you saw in those fight scenes i mentioned earlier (most of which are better then 90% in movies) And, at teh end of this hour or so long grueling battle to test your skills and strategy. If you win the battle, you'll gain some ground and access to new temples or dungeons. if you fail, you'll lose an item like your hookshot and some ground so you'd have to redo a temple in order to find the item again.

Any comments ?

EDIT: Refer to Jehuty's post on a better way to regain items.

Re: Great game idea

I quite like the idea, actually. That could end up very nice. Especially if it was done by.. say... Blizzard

I don't like the idea of having to redo a temple just to get an item again though. That would just be tedious.

But a game like that... you're right, it's an awsome idea. It could end up very deep, and on top of that, your own personal fighting skills would affect things as well.

Re: Great game idea

Hmmm...Interesting indeed. Would there be RPGish elements in the game? That would be nice...

Re: Great game idea

It does seem pretty interesting, but as l-o-s said, it would be rather tedious to go back just to get an item.

Re: Great game idea

Yeah, the idea seems cool, and L-O-S basically said how most people would feel about the item loss idea. I think that idea is interesting, but it sounds a lot like Advance Wars. You have you base and the characters that move and try to destroy the other guys... it seems like the same basic concept as Advance Wars. Which, I can't argue is a good fun way to battle.

Re: Great game idea

RTS? All I get from that is "Something like Advance Wars" But back on topic

I really like the idea but like others said instead of having to get your items back, you would be thrown into enemy prison and then you would have to find some of your taken items inside the fortress. Then you can either escape or infiltrate the fortress so you would lose on purpose... how strategic. Once you get back to your base you would pay for repairs and stuff if you have the money. Then some of your troops might be gone... then you might have to resort to inexpereinced fairly young children, but I'm probably getting too un-zelda like.

Re: Great game idea

Yeah! I think i said somewhere that i would love to see an army of moblins fight against a bunch of hylian soldiers on Hyrule field..i think it would be just perfectly spiffy if you could fight alongside your allies...it just seems that having comrades on the arena would make it more personal...especially if your soldier friend is about to get totally maimed, in your mind, you're like "NOOO, PEPE!! NOOOOOOOO!!" This war could actually take place during the Great War that took place before OoT.

Re: Great game idea

I like your idea, sounds good.

However, I don't like the idea of redoing a temple just to get an item back... that sounds boring. I wouldn't play a game like that o.o

Re: Great game idea

It sounds like a great idea, I agree with everyone else that the item thing would not be a good idea. That would almost be as bad as the shards of the triforce in tWW, okay, maybe not that bad...

I was thinking that same thing Garo Ninja. Having allies is a great idea, that would get you way more involved with the story line. Huge battles with your friends fighting along your side in this setting would be absolutly perfect.

Nintendo could make the Zelda series many times better than it is. I wish they had a more deep plot that got you hooked on the game. They do that already, but Zelda has the potential to be so much better than it is.

Re: Great game idea

I liek the idea, but do something like this: You command troops the whole time, use the C-stick to issue commands or something, so you can fight while reqrouping, or charging. If you just issue formations and such at the start and then lose controll, most of the RTS elements go out the window, after a few attacks the formation would break, and it would just be a fight like we saw at E3, this isn't a bad thing, but it sorta makes the formation idea worthless, you may as well just start the fight..

Re: Great game idea

Very nice, Ithink that game would fall together nicely, the only problem is obstacles and the sort of other weapons you can get. Thinking....it hurts...my mind...wait....what mind. Ignore that I talk to myself. Anyway if you ever do try to get that thing invented I jsut wish you a good luck.

Re: Great game idea

I don't really fancy the idea, it's not quite what I look for in a Zelda game. Nice imagination though... RPGs can be fun (if they're Star Wars, hehehe) but turning Zelda into one would not be so appropiate either, that answering many ideas here and there on this forum about a Zelda game with RPG elements.

Are there seriously this many of you whjo have never played a proper RTS? What are you doing here? Go buy Starcraft and Warcraft 3 or something

He never said this was a Zelda game... he was just using the Zelda trailor as an example.

The whole point of the idea was that the starting formations, positions, defensive/offensive fortifications and whatnot would be absolutely crucial. Unless ou set up your army just right, you would have a good chance of losing. All the strategizing would be done before the battle starts, and once it's under way, it'd take on a life of it's own.

Obviously, they would have to include special things. Maybe in one battle your character could command a small strikeforce that tries to slay the enemy general once the battle is under way, or any number of things.

And I repeat... this was not meant as an idea for a new Zelda game, he was merely using the new Zelda's trailor as an example. You can get as un-Zelda like as you want

Re: Great game idea

Thanks LOS, but now that I think about it, having to redo the temple again would be pretty tedious. However, jehuty did manage to solve that problem pretty well if you ask me. And whoever thought this idea is RPG like has never played a proper RTS game. But, being zeldaish...some people could argue there was already rpg elements in it.
