Quite annoying

I've come to a conclusion. InterAct is useless.

When I got my cube, part of the bundle was the InterAct 16X(or something like that) memory card, and at the time that was good because Nintendo's biggest card was just the 251. Soon N will be releasing like a 1019 or something.

Anyway, over the course of..... 2 years, this stupid card has messed up on me thrice, and they have been grevious each time.

It messed up once long ago and needed to be formated, thusly erasing all my saved data. Then it messed up again one time, giving me the same speel about formating. So I just turned off my cube and took it out. And it quit giving me the message, thankfully.

But now, this afternoon, whilest trying to play Metroid Prime, it did it to me again. I was starting a new game, and whenever I got to the Tallon overworld for the first time, the stupid thing then starts telling me it won't save, when it had just saved 10 minutes earlier right before the parasite queen. I've tried letting it sit, and tried several other things that worked in the past, but it still doesn't come out of its comatose, which requires formatting.

Needless to say, I'm more than a little ticked. This thing has several important save files on it, which makes me quite angered.

If it doesn't quit doing it by later tonight then I'll just accept my fate and format it. But for sure, whenever I have some money around to be had, I'm going to buy the bigger Nintendo card, and not get myself kicked in the junk again by this worthless interact card.

I suppose the main purpose of this thread would be, DON'T BUY AN INTERACT CARD!

*concludes with releasing anger*

Re: Quite annoying

yeah i always buy nintendo things just in case. but my memory cards have deleted some of my files. its deleted my first animal crossing(which means i lost the nes games that you get for the first file), and my sonic adventure 2:battle file. i was soooooooooo mad when those were erased. we had beaten sonic except for gettin all of the emblems. and our animal crossing was good.

Re: Quite annoying

I don't really have that many third party hardware items anymore. I just don't trust most of that stuff anymore, because I've had many problems with it. The only things I have are two MadCatz controllers, two MadCatz controller extension cords, and an intec GameCube/GameBoy Advance connector.

The only one of those for the GCN I've had problems with is one of the extension cords. For some reason, the black cord cuts the power off to my GameCube. If you have it plugged in the GCN can't be turned on and if you put it in while it's on it turns the GCN off. It's very strange and I really don't know why I still have that stupid thing.

Re: Quite annoying

Hold your breath for a totally uncharacteristic post from me.

Nintendo stuff is just as bad.

My first memory card was a 59, which proceeded to wipe out my nearly perfect SSBM file (groan) before playing around with me for a while, then self-destructing. I now own another 59 and a 251. The 251 was never too trustworthy, it ate my files once or twice. And, by the way, the second time I almost perfected SSBM, guess what file got erased? Yeah, well.

Believe me, you'd be annoyed if your hard work got wiped out.... twice. Are Nintendo made components more reliable? Supposedly. In my experience, are they? Not necessarily.

Anyway, look on the bright side, you've got ample chances to perfect your early space boots dash jump for sequence breaking.

Good, you've learned a valuable lesson. Third party equals crap in 99.9% of all insances, especially when the official one is available. Why do you think it's so much cheaper?

Re: Quite annoying

Don't go blaming everything on your memory cards people. It can also be caused by scratches on the cd or crappy games like sonic heroes. Like my eternal darkness game. whenever I save using it, it corrupts the data no matter what card i use. All because of a scratch on it.

Re: Quite annoying

I would never buy a 3rd party memory card... they don't evn feel as high quality. The only thing I have ever lost on my Nintendo card is an SSX: tricky save file, while it was fully loaded, I was getting rid of the game anyway. The only sad thing is that as far as I'm concerned almost any given save file I have is worth more than any game I own, so I protect those cards with my life.

Random file losses are why I thought the SD card reader would be such a great thing, save file to the computer, CD-R, floppy disc, it would have been great. Of course there are 3rd party products that do the same things

In the case of InterAct, I believe they're out of business now? Either way, perhaps for the best. Their one particular Dreamcast controller was absolutely ghastly.

I've had good luck with third-party products in the past. All of my old PSX memory cards are third-party and I've never had a problem with them. I have a handful of third-party controllers, connectors, storage products, and a couple of memory cards for modern systems. The only one that's given me trouble is (ironically) an InterAct Dreamcast memory card. All others work pretty good, with the third-party controllers ranging from average to amazing.

FYI: I actually had the same problem with Metroid Prime using an official Nintendo card, more or less. The game refused to save after a really long period of play. It seemed to fix itself after quickly restarting the game, though.

Re: Quite annoying

On my old N64 I never used any 3rd party equiptment but on my GCN I've got two controllers, two memory cards, two disc storage cases and two extension cards. All of those are made by the brand 'Tru Blu'. In short, I find the controllers a lot better than the official ones and I haven't had any problems with the other equiptment. And, I got all of that stuff for the price of one WaveBird (wireless controller). Quite a saving IMO.

Re: Quite annoying

This is very odd, I have a 251 memory card for my Gamecube and I have never ever experienced trouble with it, nor with the other Nintendo one I have. It is a third party one by the way.

Re: Quite annoying

You should get a new memory card and copy all the files onto that before you format it.
I have a 159 block 'ThrustMaster' memory card. It's great. I'va had it since I got my Gamecube ages ago and no problems as of yet. except for the fact I've no blocks left on it.

I would have, except that it wouldn't let me at the information, so that I could copy everything. Oh well, I already did it. Big whoop. Dah well.

Re: Quite annoying

The first memory card I had was a 3rd party one. I don't know the brand of it, but it could be an InterAct one, since it has a lowercase 'i' with a circle on it. Anyway, I only played one game using it, and that was Rogue Squadron 2. I had almost completed the game when all my save data vanished mysteriously. Recently I bought a Nintendo 251 card and transferred all my data to it, and now the 'i' card sits on top of my TV gathering dust.
I've heard that putting your memory cards in or too close to a strong magnetic field can also erase your data. So, Bobslob, maybe you kept putting your cards by a magnet or something, I don't know. The 251 hasn't given me any problems, nor has the one I borrowed from a friend before that. There's my two cents.

True, I use Thrustmasters cards too and I never experienced any trouble with it, but...

DO NOT FORGET that Phantasy Star Online whoops any data from a 3rd-party memory card. If PSO does this, there might be other games that use the same "No 3rd-party meory cards" system. Perhaps you own such a game, KamikazeCow.

Re: Quite annoying

Metroid Prime has alot of glitches, the inability to save on a 3rd Party card may be one of those. I have 2 Mem 59s (one came with my 'cube, the other I got used.) Both work fine and have never deleated anything of mine. (Unless I tell them to that is.)

Re: Quite annoying

I always stick with Nintendo products when buying Gamecube or N64 accesories. I bought like 3 Pelican controllers for PS2 once and not one worked. I bought a Playstation 2 one and it still works.
