Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

ZOMG i loved this game! Ive beaten it like 5 times XD and one file i have like 100hrs of play time! and they "break the fourth wall" because its a major thing in the game. Mewt wishes that the world would be like his favorite game so thats why Ivalice is the way it is. And besides they only do it like twice. Anyways i like the first one better and FFTA better than FFTA2.. the main story was lacking in part 2 but it made for it with its numourous side storys, the big one being..

when the countries being invaded by that one clan (i forgot their name). And plus the hunting for Adels weapons.. and the just a whole other bunch

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Final Fantasy Tactics, the original one for the PSOne is wonderful. I loved that game. I got so good at it. I even unlocked Cloud in the game, and it was just.. so awesome. ;-;

I didn't play all the way through when it comes to FFTA, but I do have to agree with Hazzle, and say that I wasn't too much of a fan when it came to the law system.

I have been a long time fan of the Final Fantasy series. I own practically every numbered game, and I also liked the various Chrystal Chronicles spinoffs. I started this game with high expectations.

Now, I already knew the combat was going to be different than a standard RPG. In fact the combat is perfect. What kills this game is the something else. I have been playing this game for a while, and I haven't even gotten to walk around yet. All I've done is a few fights that lasted 5 minuets at most, and then I have to sit through fifteen minuets of cutscenes. That's all there is: fights and cutscenes.

Now, normal FF cutscenes entertain me, but these are just boring as hell. The dialogue is completely uninspired. I especially hate how they keep breaking the fourth wall by mentioning their favorite game "Final Fantasy". Now, occasionally breaking the fourth wall can be funny, but this isn't done in any clever way, and it is done so many times that it becomes annoying rather quickly. Its almost like product placement...for their own game.

My question is, why is this game so popular? Granted, I never played the original Tactics for the PS1, but this game is horrible.
I am disappointed that you feel that way about such a great game. FFTA was one of my favorites for the GBA. I can't imagine anyone thinking it's horrible. It was such a great introduction for me into the shall I say new age Final Fantasy games. The battle system was done well and the story was really interesting.

I hated this game. I didn't like any of the characters, and I didn't like the story. Those two things are the only things that kept me playing FE7, while I dropped FE9 quickly. Hopefully Tactics on PS1 has a good story if I ever decide to play that one.

I agree with this. At first, I thought it was neat idea, but after you have like 4 laws at time, and they make it so you can't do crap, I stopped playing.

It's an amazing story. It's just hard to follow your first time through. Plus, it helps to read the little chapters/info on people you get.

Three, but that's why you need to keep lots of anti-law cards on hand.

A2's law system was worse though. They took away the half of the laws which you can benefit from (For example the "Forbidden:Fire|Recommended:Ice" law is now just a "Forbidden:Fire" law.)

If you're going to pick it up, I strongly suggest getting the FFT remake for PSP. As someone who also owns the original version on PSX, I can tell you that the remake is easier to follow, mostly because of the lack of Engrish. While it does have slow load times, I never found that to hamper my enjoyment of War of the Lions. There's some new jobs in the remake as well, but I know one of them takes a very long time to unlock *coughDarkKnightcough*.

Eh, the laws are fine. It's much better in A2 though, since you can do clan tests to give yourself a party buff (for example, more strength.) It's still a bit eh when you get ones like "can't group together", which means you can't end a character's turn standing next to another party member. It mixes things up though, instead of being able to do whatever you like all of the time.

Wow, there's a lot of hate for this game.
I usually notice that it's only ever by people that played the original first, tough.
It's always "This is so much worse than the original Tactics".

I must admit that I wasn't overly fond of the little bit of Tactics I did play.

Oh yeah, I just remembered another thing.

While yes, the clan buffs are nice, there's another thing they took away for A2. Laws no longer effect the enemy, which removes an entire layer of strategy from the game.

Although, it is worth it, and an extremely fun class to play with.

I thought A2 was kinda short, and overall I really didn't like it, but it did have some positives. I really liked the classes in A2, some of them were actually really neat.

Did they even effect the enemy in the first game? I always thought it didn't, and similarly always thought that it was bull**** that they could break the same rules I couldn't, but oh well.

Oh, it most definitely effected them in FFTA. Having "Forbidden:Attack" and casting Berserk/Catnip/etc. was a great way to win when other laws weren't in your favor.

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Oh that's awesome. Well eh, they messed that up for no good reason, but it has a lot of positives over the first game too.

The amount of jobs you could get was absolutely insane. Like, there were 50 or something ridiculous like that.

Oh, yes. I loved the new jobs. I haven't gotten to the bits in A2 with the new races yet though. (Or at least, not at any bit where I'm able to use them)

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

I only recently got a raptor or whatever you call them, definitely the coolest race. I haven't tried, but having them as a gunner would be insane. The fat guys aren't much different, and I didn't particularly enjoy the Hunter job.

Raptor is a job class though. If you mean the Grias, they can't be gunners. Only Moogles can.

Oh yeah, the Grias.Well eh, they're still the best race due to their ability to fly over different pitches of terrain.
