So yeah, got an eyebrow piercing, ear piercing, and had my lip pierced when I was at school. And I've got a name tattooed down the side of my left forearm.

Once I loose some more weight, I'm getting my navel pierced.
![]() I have seven holes in my ears, three on my left and four on my right. I also have a butterfly tattoo on my right outer ankle and want to add either a vine underneath it or a circle of fire around it.

Re: Tattoos & Piercings (body art)
I don't see myself getting a piercing anytime soon, but I do already have one tattoo on my left shoulder. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...ageID=23393488
This is the Roman Numeral for 13 (obviously), and I got it because it is my true lucky number. I was born six weeks premature on my 13th, and if I had been born one day later than I would have been dead. So 13 is my lucky number =). The next tattoo I want to get is a tattoo across my shoulder of the phrase: Vires Per Adversum. The phrase is Latin for Strength Through Adversity, which I want to get as a reminder of everything I have been through that made me who I am today. I just haven't decided on the font or the size though. Any recommendations on an appropriate font? |

Tattoos!
I already have one tattoo and I intend on getting more. There is only one problem, I only really have one idea for a tattoo that I want. The phrase Vires Per Adversum which means Strength Through Adversity in Latin. This will be going across my shoulder blades as a reminder of my firefighter days. I would really appreciate any thoughts on this tattoo, or cool ideas for other tattoos that you wouldn't mind me possibly using in the future. Many thanks!

Re: Tattoos & Piercings (body art)
Rather than have a new thread when the old one was not that old, I just merged the threads on tattoos.
Of course, you were the last one to post in said thread, so now it looks like you double posted or bumped. But you didn't. Oh well. Should have checked that first. In any case, here we are. |

Re: Tattoos & Piercings (body art)
Don't have any interest in pericings. I do want some tattoos though. I have always wanted the Triforce on either my left or right hand, a picture of Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo on my left upper arm and the tattoo that Revy, from Black Lagoon, has on her right arm. The sign form Hell Girl that appears on your chest after you've made the deal Ai. Although I will have to wait until I am a Police officer to find out what is execptable.

Sure, tattoos are also used for assorted lowlifes and criminals, i.e. gang tattoos, prison tattoos, Neo-Nazis, Yakuza. As a means of identification, but not to be too harsh, but since you decided to make false statements and criticize others for wanting tattoos....those who were condemned to the concentration camps during WWII were identified with forced tattoos; so I hate to burst your bubble here, but, tattoos are as historically relevant to society as piercings are. It's amazing the things you can learn from Google, and while Wiki may not be 100% credible....here's some reading on tattoos and their history...just FYI. There are references to criminals and "lowlifes" being tattooed within these articles, one of which comes from Japan: "Between 1720 - 1870 Criminals were tattooed as a visible mark of punishment, this actually replaced having ears and noses removed. A criminal would often receive a single ring on their arm for each crime committed which easily conveyed their criminality. This practice was eventually abolished by the "Meji" government who banned the art of tattooing altogether, viewing it as barbaric and direspectful, this subsequently forced a sub culture of criminals and outcasts, many of whom were the old Samurai warriors ("Ronin" - Master less). These people had no place in "decent society" and were frowned upon, they were kept separate and simply could not integrate into mainstream society because of their obvious visible tattoos, this forced them into criminal activities which ultimately formed the roots for the modern Japanese mafia - "Yakuza" for which tattoos in Japan have almost become synonymous." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tattoo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_tattooing |

Re: Tattoos & Piercings (body art)
That's nice and all, but my point still stands. The inadvertent hilarity in a bunch of kids criticizing one form of body modification and absolutely falling in love with one that has had some very heavy negative connotations within contemporary cultures is just too much.

Re: Tattoos & Piercings (body art)
I'm not the biggest fan of tattoos or excessive body piercings. I just have 3 piercings on each ear, which I've had since 7th grade. I'm not really planning any more.

Re: Tattoos & Piercings (body art)
I would never get a tattoo. I find them unattractive on the opposite sex, as well. I find nothing so important that I'd risk having an ugly, sagging likeness on my body as I age.

My apologies then Discussion, the way I interpreted your post about tattoos being reserved for lowlifes and criminals was out of context. I do agree with you that it's hypocritical to slander one form of body modification while praising another--even considering the negative ties tattoo has had placed upon it. I do find it to be rather disturbing that so many of these posters (most under 18) want to adorn their bodies with video game items, icons, etc. While I understand it's your body and you can decorate it however you see fit; some of these "ideas" ya'll have had "forever", are quite immature in one way or another. I've seen some amazing video game themed ink done & I've seen some that I not only question the person, but the artist for agreeing to put something like that on a person's body. At any rate, get what you want; I'm guilty myself of some ridiculous tattoos, I've regretted them, I think more about what I want and now I'm coming up with a theme and ideas for covering up the 'mistakes'. Just pleasae really think it all out, as awesome as it'll look now, try to imagine that same design 20 yrs down the line, the ink dulled from exposure to the sun and just regular wear (from aging). I would absolutely love some Zelda ink myself, I've seen a really nice piece that was WW or PH themed, but of course a simple Triforce design would work for me. ![]() |
