The fact that all the ones still around are harmful is simply because instructions that go: "Devote all of your energy to making copies of me and spreading them" get spread further than ones that go "If you wouldn't mind just helping me a little bit here, then you can go back to doing what you're doing. Thanks."
I always wondered why symbiotes aren't more common. It would make sense for them to travel further than parasites? ~Unless the parasites value their own reproduction above the well-being of the host, I guess.

Parasites that unnecessarily harm the host don't make evolutionary sense to me. I think I'm missing something.

Again, I'd like to see a foundation for your fear of two unrelated vaccines that don't exist making you blind or paralysed.

How do we vaccinate against a base telomere condition? We cannot use bacteria to make you more resistant to DNA malfunction or viruses.

85% is unacceptable, I feel -- 1,050,000,000 human losses would be the event of a worldwide vaccination program.

It's basically stuff that evolved to deal with a problem, but was disabled after the problem went away. For example, during the Ice Age humans used to have much more hair, but climate changes meant we didn't need it anymore, so it went away.

But some of the genetics that caused it are still there. It's been left behind from back when we were an onion, or whatever -- but it's still important for loads of reasons.

For the same reason we can't take the code out of Fable II and put it in our GBA and play Pokemon gold in the XBoX world, we can't just drop DNA in and out of a person, because the junk DNA affects us. If we remove one aspect of it in rats, it causes the rats to have eighteen legs. We can't just drop the human ear gene into a rat because it collides with instructions from the junk that used to affect the Rat ear gene.

For instance -- the rat gene on its own might tell the ear to have too much lobe, but it doesn't in affect because of the junk DNA's lobe inhibiting properties. Putting a human ear in there without compensating means lobe deformities.

Having a majority junk DNA means, also, that there is a lower chance of an inportant gene suffering damage if anything should happen to the DNA -- and leaves a steady resevior of genetic material for newly advantageous genes to come forth from. It's a base component of evolution, I understand.

What? There currently is no vaccine, how could you possibly know what side effects might occur or how likely they'd be?

Symbiotes are far more common (you're playing host to trillions of them right now.)

Most parasites also don't kill their host. At worst they'll slightly weaken it.

Those that do kill their host will take advantage of its death to spread even further.

Re: Geneticists find HIV Vaccine in our junk

when i saw that they found a cure in our "junk" i thought of something else

seriously though this looks like it could be pretty big for all the people with hiv out there, though i wouldn't want to rush out and get the shot before seeing that it wont turn me into a mutant. Unless it gives me the ability to shot fire or something else awesome like that

I was gonna make the thread title "Geneticists find HIV Vaccine in our junk DNA" but decided against it for that reason. xD
