Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

Why do people that have poor personal hygiene? Why can't they shower? brush their teeth etc.

Not only do these dumb decisions afect them but it also affects the people around them. Why should the innocent people have to suffer from their decisions? Also...is it really that hard to take 3 minutes from you're day to go brush you're teeth? or 15 minutes to take a shower? etc

We have all experienced these people and if we have not...we are bound to do so in our lifetime.

Now the question is... Have you had any encounter's with people like these? if you have, Explain .

I sometimes feel that people who have poor personal hygiene are not informed about their own body.

Yeah, I have. In the fourth grade I believe. Or was it fifth...? Anyways, this one girl had really, really bad breath. Oh my golly gosh, it was terrible. >.>

Other than that, I can't think of any other encounters.

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

I think people with poor hygiene tend to not care about themselves, or anything else, for that matter. Unless you're homeless, there really is no excuse for it.

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

Yes. I have come in contact with many of these.
I think many times they just don't realize it themselves. I have no idea HOW they could not notice it, but somehow, it sneaks past their senses.
I think there are some people who just grew up in a household where keeping up personal hygiene was not really important or taught to them =/
Honestly, if I had a close friend with this problem, I would tell them.
But there are some people who do not care how they smell or appear to others.

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

I live close to the ghetto in my town. I've had millions of encounters with people with bad hygiene. While I can't do anything to help them, if I have any on me, I give most people a breath mint or two.

LOL, it seems mean, but it's really not. XD

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

I'll admit it, if I'm just bumming it around the house for a day, sometimes I won't brush or wash up just out of pure laziness. But if I'm going out of the house, I'll atleast brush my teeth and wash my face. There's definitely a line between acceptable and not acceptable.

I don't understand how people can't tell how gross they are, and won't do something about their problems (unless it's an actual chronic problem that can't just be cured with a brush of some kind). They must be so introverted that they just can't tell.

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

I knew a guy at sixthform with red blotchy skin with massive zit creaters on his skin, loads of them, inside of them was big new yellow zits. His teeth was black and rotting, his hair was long and alive with greese, he had a order that smelt of a old gymbag mixed in with gone of dairy products, he could stink a room out easily, said it was weird to wash more then once a month and was the most annoying guy on the planet, He had a annoying laugh and laughed at everything, especially his own weird comments and he stalked us -everywhere- we had to create a emergency escape procedure.
we drew a line on the back of his neck and it was still there 3 weeks later where we gave up watching, and he followed some guys home during a lunchbreak once and invited himself into the house.
What made it worse was he did P.E.... Gross....

His breath was like a flamethrower replacing fire with disease, My gosh it was bad.

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

Yes, in high school, there was this girl named Sue. She did not take care of herself at all.
I sat next to her this one time and I smelt something, funky; it was a very strong, body odor. Obviously I thought it was me. I was upset because I thought I was ruining everyone around me's good time. I got up to do something, and the smell went away. I thought "sweet, I guess I don't smell that bad" then I sat down, and the smell came back. It took me a few other get up and sit downs to realize that it was not me that smelt, but was in fact, Sue. I wasn't sure whether to be happy that I didn't smell, or be upset that I had to sit next to her.
Gross.

There's a guy in my college class who happily informs everyone that he showers approximately once a week, and doesn't give a rat's ass about what anyone else thinks of it. Awesome.

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

I once slept in a hotel room with a guy who just didn't shower for 3 days straight.

When we would get back from the event we were at, he was clearly sweaty as ****, and he would just take off his shirt and, uh, do nothing and eventually go to sleep.

Just thinking about it makes me...ashjwhjgnra;rwalafjasjfklas;

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

I have two jobs that exhaust me, so I just want to lay down, so I usually end up forgetting to shower. I try to clean up before going out though... not that it does a whole lot of good because I ride a bike everywhere and get sweaty again. Also my friend drops in on me without warning and takes me places, so I don't get a lot of notice to shower up and shave, even though I really don't like being seen with fuzzy face.

I have this friend who doesn't brush his teeth. His reason?

"No girl will ever kiss me, so why even bother brushing my teeth?"

HAHAHA.

Re: Personal Hygiene, the Good and the Bad

Unfortunately, I have encountered said people on numerous occasions. Probably the worst case was this huge family. They were at least five or six kids and they all smelled horribly. The other I had the displeasure encountering several years later. It was a girl. She smelled horrid.

Exactly. They do not realize it. It is just like walking into a room with a foul odor. At first you're going to smell it. Then as time wears on, your smell senses will be dulled and the offending smell will not longer exist to you.
